While the increased bills that came with the year 2022 put the citizens in great trouble, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen reacted to the high bills and made a proposal to the central government.

While the increased bills received a great reaction all over Turkey, President Büyükerşen expressed his reaction with the posts he made on his social media account. Pointing out that the bills exceeded the rental expenses in his first post, Mayor Büyükerşen said, “Due to the electricity bills exceeding the rent, our citizens are having a hard time, our shopkeepers are closing their shutters one by one. He supported the citizens by saying that it is essential to re-evaluate these hikes, which were made unjustly and caused great difficulties for our citizens in the winter.

Citing the electricity bill of ESTRAM, the tram operating system, President Büyükerşen reacted to the fact that the electricity bill of 2021 million 1 thousand TL in December 846 came to 2022 million 4 thousand TL in January 890. President Büyükerşen shared, “The situation is no different in the public sector. Our expectation from the central government is to provide subsidies to local governments on issues of vital importance to our citizens.” He made recommendations to the central government. Stating that VAT and SCT exemptions should be brought to public transportation, Mayor Büyükerşen stated that tax reductions should be made in order to reduce energy costs.
