First the foreclosure came, then it was closed
Its construction started controversially in 2013, during Melih Gökçek's term as the Metropolitan Municipality Mayor. Despite the decision of the Council of State to suspend the execution of the main zoning plan, which includes the park, in 2014, the construction on the Atatürk Orman Çiftliği land continued. While Administrative courts decided to stay the execution of the zoning plans in the lawsuits, the Metropolitan Municipality continued the construction with new zoning plans by making minor changes. In the tender held in 2018, GBM Ticaret-Steel Joint Venture Group took over the operation of the park for 26 years. Ankapark was opened to visitors in 2019. However, due to the debts of the operating company, the park was foreclosed in September 2019. In December, the electricity in the park was cut off. The park closed in February 2020 as it did not reach the expected number of visitors.
