20 percent of the renovation works on the Çarşamba-Ayvacık Highway, which provides access to the Ayvacık district, one of the important tourism destinations of the Black Sea Region, have been completed. Regarding the investment, which is planned to be completed in 2024, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “Our priority is to ensure that the road connecting our two districts is completed quickly. We are meeting with the Minister. Thank you for your contribution,” he said.

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir's requests and contacts at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure were rewarded. The route, which covers the Çarşamba Junction and the end of the Hasan Uğurlu Dam, was re-designed by the 7th Regional Directorate of Highways and was tendered in January 2021.

Regarding the renewal of the road, which will cost approximately 350 million TL in total, the Metropolitan Municipality is closely following the works of the contractor company. In the 12-month period, 43 thousand cubic meters of stone wall was built, and 20 thousand tons of foundation filling material and asphalt were laid on the section between the 23th and 35rd kilometers. Concrete ditches and culverts for stream crossings were built to prevent water from damaging the road foundation.

LONG LIFE

Infrastructure is given great importance so that the Çarşamba-Ayvacık Road, which will be renewed according to the A1 standard of highways, will also have a life of 70-100 years. In 2022, infrastructure investments will intensify between 15-25 kilometers of the route. The road ground will be reinforced to prevent collapse or landslide. In this, art structures such as retaining walls, culverts for stream crossings, concrete ditches, fortifications and bored piles will be built above and below the road.

DYNAMITED NOT USED

Since there is an electricity generation facility in Hasan Uğurlu Dam, blast excavations with dynamite cannot be carried out in the parts close to the hull. Instead, the pyrotechnic rock crusher cartridge system is used. With this special technique, which does not cause high vibration, the rocks are broken down to form a road platform.

The highway, which will reduce the transportation between the two districts from 30 minutes to 10 minutes when completed, will be completed in August 2024 unless there are any additional changes in the project and investment program. Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “Ayvacık is one of the important tourism locations of our city and region. We aim to further develop our district, which arouses admiration with its natural beauties, with a tourism destination. To achieve this, the road must be completed. Carsamba-Ayvacik road is in the highway network. We are in talks with our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Adil Karaismailoğlu. I thank him for his support. The work is currently ongoing,” he said.
