The Beijing Winter Olympic Games are ready to be held on the predicted date, as the COVID-19 epidemic spreads around the world. The work to prevent the epidemic is also vital for the Olympic Games.

The Chinese side has taken various measures to protect the safety of the participants of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, by complying with the items set in the Epidemic Prevention Manual, which was jointly announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee and the Beijing Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee.

However, some Western media outlets are trying to defame China's anti-epidemic measures and spoil the mood of the Winter Olympic Games by slamming China's efforts with allegations of "extreme seriousness" and "infringement of personal information."

Meanwhile, Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee has also released a mobile phone application called “My 2022” (My 2022). This practice is vital for epidemic measures during the Olympic Games. Applicants can upload their health status to the internet every day, while also accessing easy services such as navigation, translation and food. Similar mobile applications were also used during the Tokyo Olympic Games held last year.

The IOC gave a clear response to the malicious news made by some Western media with the so-called "data security" claim.

The IOC stated that the download of the “My 2022” application is not mandatory and the relevant personnel can register with the health inspection system on the internet. The Chinese side announced that encrypted security measures were taken for personal information in the application.

Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, President of the IOC-Beijing Winter Olympic Games Coordination Commission, told reporters that the epidemic prevention measures taken for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games are safe and effective, and that the Olympic Village under closed-loop management is one of the safest places in the world.
