New Regulation in Traffic Due to Çiğli Tram Line Works

As part of the Çiğli Tram Line works, which are under construction by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the construction of the viaduct that will connect the Ring Road Station to the Çiğli Ataşehir District is coming to an end. In order to complete the viaduct, as of Wednesday, March 3, 2022, traffic flow will be provided over the side road on the Atakent Köprülü Junction section of the ring road in the direction of Bornova-Çanakkale and in the 150-meter section going from Çanakkale to Bornova.

Within the scope of the construction of Çiğli Tram Line, the final stage has been passed in the construction of the viaduct that will connect the Çevreyolu Station to Çiğli Ataşehir District. In order for the viaduct to pass over the ring road, work will begin in the Atakent Köprülü Junction area. As of Wednesday, March 3, 2022, traffic regulations will be made in this region. In the 150-meter section of the ring road that goes from the Bornova direction to the Çanakkale direction, the traffic flow will be provided over the side road, and in the 150-meter section that goes from the Çanakkale direction to the Bornova direction, the traffic flow will be provided over the side road in the same region. The work will take a month. After the works, traffic will return to its old order. When the viaduct is completed, it will be opened to bicycle and pedestrian use.

43 percent complete

On the Çiğli Tramway line, the foundation of which was laid in February last year, 43 percent of the manufacturing works were completed in a short time. While a contract was signed for the purchase of 26 electric tram vehicles to be used on the Çiğli Tram, the investment amount for these vehicles was 750 million TL. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's total investment in Çiğli Tramway will reach 1 billion 250 million liras. After the completion of the tram line, which will consist of 11 kilometers and 14 stations, at the end of 2022, it is planned to start test drives.

Tram lines increase to 33,6 kilometers

The line, which will start from the Cevreyolu Station, will be connected to Çiğli Ataşehir Mahallesi with a viaduct. The route is planned to serve the Ring Road Station, Ataşehir, Çiğli Ataşehir District, Çiğli İZBAN Station, Çiğli Regional Training Hospital, Ata Industrial Zone, Katip Çelebi University and Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone. In this way, Çiğli Tram will breathe into the region, ease the traffic, and facilitate access to hospitals, universities and industry in the region.

Most of the route will be built as a double line, passing through the middle medians. Moreover Karşıyaka During the construction of the tram, the Ataşehir-Mavişehir İZBAN connection, which is about 1 kilometer long, which could not be made due to property problems, will also be made within the framework of the construction of this line. After the line is put into operation, the tram lines in Izmir will reach a total of 33,6 kilometers.
