Emirates, the world's largest international airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maldivian, the national airline and leading domestic carrier of the Maldives Islands, to evaluate codeshare, domestic flights and joint holiday package opportunities.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Commercial Affairs Director, said: “The Maldives is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Emirates network and we are delighted to be seizing opportunities to collaborate with the country's local airline. A codeshare and domestic flight contract will greatly benefit both airlines. For Emirates passengers, this means improved connections on round-trip flights to the Maldives Archipelago. For Maldivian travel enthusiasts, it will facilitate access from our extensive network of over 120 destinations via Dubai. We want to strengthen our partnership and provide a perfect travel experience to our passengers.” The Minister of Finance of the Maldives, Ibrahim Ameer, said: “Emirates has a huge impact on the tourism sector of the Maldives. Emirates ranks first in terms of international passenger traffic. The possible partnership between the two airlines will be beneficial for the Maldives economy and will also strengthen the economic ties between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates.”

Mohamed Mihad, Managing Director of Maldivian, commented: “The opportunity to evaluate a partnership ground with the world's largest airline means a door to endless opportunities for Maldivian. The prospects for growth based on such a partnership are important to develop partnerships that will enable us to position ourselves in the post-Covid aviation industry these days as we look to expand the scope of our activities. Thanks to the domestic and codeshare opportunities under consideration, both Maldivian and Emirates will be able to expand their services as well as connectivity options. The two airlines are working on a codeshare agreement where Emirates passengers can easily book and connect flights from Male to more than 15 domestic and international destinations served by Maldivian.

Emirates and Maldivian will also take advantage of collaboration opportunities between their tour operating units to offer their passengers bespoke packages, including hotel stays at world-class resorts and private tours. Emirates made its first flight to the Maldives in 1987. The airline currently operates 28 flights per week to the island, providing vital support to the country's trade and tourism revival. Emirates has recently earned the title of best airline in the Maldives and carries 265 passengers to the island nation from high-end markets, including the UAE, UK, USA, Russia and Germany. Emirates currently operates with 23 airlines and two rail lines. has signed codeshare/travel agreements with the company. It also has domestic lines contracts with over 115 airlines and railway companies.

Emirates has safely resumed flights via Dubai to more than 120 destinations within its global network. The airline is also known for driving the industry with innovative products and services. These include a comprehensive package of health and safety measures at every stage of the journey, contactless technology solutions at Dubai Airport, flexible reservation policies and free Covid-19 medical travel.
