In an article published on February 7, 2022 in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering, it is written that Chinese researchers have found a Kovid-19 test method that gives very fast results, and that the test in question is as reliable as a PCR test and gives the result in less than four minutes.

For now, PCR tests are the norm around the world for tracking down Covid-19, but it often takes several hours to get results. Researchers from reputable university Fudan University in Shanghai found an alternative to this method with faster results.

In the article published in the above-mentioned journal, the Chinese team of researchers states that they have created a sensor that uses microelectronics to analyze the DNA in the swab taken from the person. The design team reports that a sensor attached to a portable machine provides results in less than four minutes. It is explained that the machine is very sensitive and can be easily carried anywhere.

To test the researchers' claims, swabs were taken from 33 people infected with the coronavirus. Simultaneous PCR tests to compare the two methods and tests performed according to the new method gave exactly the same results. Fudan University researchers have created a setup in many different cases; they underline the fact that it can be used, for example, in airports, hospitals or even at home.

PCR tests are slow and require a significant infrastructure and laboratory. However, most of the developing countries have only a limited number of them. This makes it difficult to trace the COVID-19 disease. In this context, self-administered tests are far from reliable.

China is one of the largest manufacturers of PCR tests globally, exporting $1,6 billion worth of PCR tests last December. This corresponds to an increase of 144 percent compared to the previous month, according to data from Chinese customs.
