1,5 Tons of Illegal Tobacco Seized in Hatay

During the operation carried out by the Ministry of Commerce Customs Enforcement teams in Hatay, 1,5 tons of smuggled tobacco, 2,8 tons of glycerin, 175 kilograms of hookah flavor, 325 kilograms of glucose syrup, 5 kilograms of food coloring, approximately 146 thousand pieces of hookah parts and packaging materials were seized.

In the intelligence studies carried out by the Hatay Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, information was obtained that illegal hookah tobacco was produced and sold at an address in the city. In the investigation, the suspicious address was determined and followed up.

During the follow-up, when the criminal elements at the suspicious address were asked to be removed from the building in cardboard boxes, the Customs Enforcement teams took action.

After the first response, a search of the building found 1,5 tons of tobacco, 2,8 tons of glycerin, 325 kilograms of glucose syrup, 175 kilograms of hookah flavor and 5 kilograms of food coloring. In addition, 136 sipsi, 5 lances, 700 packaging and 4 packaging machines were seized.

It was determined that the market value of the products seized in the smuggled hookah tobacco factory, which was detected and terminated by the operation of the Customs Enforcement teams, was approximately 1,5 million liras.

An investigation was launched before the Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against 4 suspects related to the incident.
