Drilling of the “Dabei-401” well, designed as China's deepest onshore natural gas well, started in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in the northwest of the country. The borehole is located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, where the geology is extremely complex. The well located in the Tarim Oil Field of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's leading oil and gas producer, will be drilled to a depth of 8 thousand 457 meters.

Data from its adjacent wells show that the formation pressure in the area is close to 140 MPa. In the Tarim Oil Field, 2021 wells exceeding 8 thousand meters were drilled in 23, and it is aimed to drill 110 ultra-deep wells this year. The Tarim Basin is an important oil basin that produces one-sixth of the country's total natural gas production.
