It was reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the train accident that occurred yesterday in the Indian state of West Bengal rose to 9.

The loss of life rises as the Guwahati-Bikaner train derails near the town of Domohani in India's West Bengal state. Ministry of Railway SözcüSU Rajiv Jain announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the accident that occurred near the New Domohani train station increased to 9, while the number of injured increased to 37. Six of the injured are in critical condition.

Stating that the rescue efforts initiated after the accident were completed, Jain said that the road was cleared for the continuation of train services in the region.

Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in his assessment at the crash site, "Preliminary investigation shows that there is a malfunction in the locomotive equipment."

Noting that the investigation continues to find the root cause of the accident, Vaishnaw stated that compensation will be paid to the families of the deceased passengers and to the injured.
