Metro Istanbul, one of the subsidiaries of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), will organize half-term events for children. Within the scope of the organizations to be held in Esenler and Esenkent campuses between January 24 and February 4, children from Istanbul; Bicycle training, marbling workshop, Fairy Tale Museum tour, Golden Horn and campus tour, such as fun and instructive activities.
Metro Istanbul, Turkey's largest urban rail system operator, serving more than 2 million passengers a day, will organize fun and educational activities for children during the semester break.
Participation will be free
Within the scope of the activities to be held at the Esenler and Esenkent campuses of the company between January 24 and February 4, children between the ages of 6 and 14 will receive bicycles; education, marbling workshop, Fairy Tale Museum tour, Golden Horn and campus tour. Children, accompanied by a parent, will be able to attend the events, which are planned separately for the Anatolian and European sides, free of charge.
“We make public use of public areas”
Ozgur Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul, stated that as a public affiliate serving Istanbul, they are planning educational and entertaining activities to give report cards to the children of this city. Emphasizing that public spaces belong to the public, General Manager Soy said, “Metro Istanbul is a 33-year-old company and for 33 years, Istanbulites have been passing by our campuses. However, we opened our doors to Istanbulites with the events we organized in order to make public spaces available to the public. With this understanding, we hosted more than 2 citizens at our Open Air Cinema event, which we organized free of charge 5.000 days a week in our Esenler campus last August and September. Again, in 2021, we organized cycling training for our children from Esenler during the semester break and Golden Horn Trip activities starting from our Alibeyköy campus. We received very good feedback from both children and their families on this subject, and this year we expanded the scope and planned different activities for the Anatolian and European sides. We hope that our children will start the new term happily with the activities we will organize free of charge so that they can spend their holidays not sitting at home, but learning and having fun in this period when everyone is negatively affected economically.
“We want to introduce children to the metro for a clean future”
Noting that they want to introduce children to the subway, Özgür Soy said, “We care about future generations. Today's children will be tomorrow's subway passengers. We think that it will be important for our children to get acquainted with the metro today so that they can live in cities with clean air without traffic jams, and in order to use these low-emission, nature-friendly transportation models in the future.”
