President, who said that they are ambitious and very excited for MODEKO 2022 Tunç Soyer“Over 300 companies and more than 750 brands will participate in the fair. Industry professionals from 50 different countries in Western Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America will visit our fair. The furniture industry, which is one of the strongest production areas of our country, also has a very important place in the international market. So much so that despite the global negative impact of the pandemic, the only industry that had a foreign trade surplus was our furniture industry. With the furniture industry, which exports three and a half billion dollars and has foreign trade surplus every year without exception, Turkey ranks eighth among the world's furniture exporters. MODEKO 2022 will undoubtedly further strengthen our position. Thanks to this fair, we will be one step closer to placing our furniture industry in the top five countries in the world. We have to increase the total production of the Turkish furniture industry to the level of 25 billion dollars. For this, we will stand by our furniture industry with all our strength.” Stating that İzmir has the potential to host much larger fairs, President Soyer said, “We are determined to do what is necessary. You will see, İzmir, which organized 10-11 fairs in the past years, will host more than 20 fairs starting this year”.

“We will do whatever it takes”

Stating that they are looking for a new place for furniture manufacturing, Chairman Soyer said, “I am aware of the problems of Karabağlar industrial site and furniture manufacturers site. We have been searching for a new place for a long time. In our meetings with Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, several options have matured. We're almost at a decision point. The fact that the workshops of these sectors remain in the city center harms both the industry and the city. We will do whatever we need to do to create the healthiest conditions.”

Çelik: “You will not need to go to Istanbul”

Erhan Çelik, Chairman of the Nobel EXPO Board of Directors, said, “I can easily make the commitment that we will bring this fair to a much better point and turn the furniture industry into the center of trade. As long as the stakeholders gather around the table, you will no longer need to go to Istanbul. We are very used to Izmir," he said. Ali Fuat Gürle, Vice President of Aegean Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters' Association, also thanked President Soyer.
