Domestic Solution Against Icing Formed on High-Speed Train Wheels

The defrosting and prevention system against frost in the wheel systems of high-speed trains in Turkey was produced by Toyka Elektronik in the İvedik Organized Industrial Site.

It is planned to produce two defrosting and prevention facilities for Ankara and one for Konya, the fourth of which will be built for the Sivas High Speed Train line. The facility, which also attracts attention abroad, will be exported to Sweden and Italy in the coming days. The unit cost of the systems is 10 million euros.

The system dissolves the ice formed on the wheels of the trains by spraying a special liquid. In this way, high-speed trains can travel at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour in harsh winter conditions.

İsmet Şahin, General Manager of Toyka Elektronik, who developed the system, said that their aim in production is to melt the ice layer formed around the train wheels under appropriate conditions and quickly. Şahin said, “70 percent of the defrosting and prevention facility we produce is domestic. We also produced a different version of the system for the highway with 80 percent locality," he said.
