Cold and rainy weather started to take effect in Istanbul. The snowfall, which started in Silivri, Çatalca and Büyükçekmece districts, became effective throughout the city in the following hours. IMM Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar and the accompanying IMM delegation inspected the measures taken and followed the work from AKOM. The measures taken yielded results. Thanks to the works that continued until the morning, there was no negative experience in Istanbul.

The cold and rainy weather showed its effect in Istanbul as well as the entire Marmara Region, as of 17.00 yesterday. IMM Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar reviewed the measures taken in Istanbul with the managers of the relevant IMM units at AKOM. An evaluation meeting was held to take additional measures. Istanbul traffic was followed moment by moment.

THE FIRST DAY HAS NO NEGATIVES

Managers of 153 IMM Units, including Road Maintenance, IMM Fire Department, IMM Traffic Directorate, İSKİ, Constabulary, İGDAŞ, ALO 26 Solution Center, Park and Gardens Directorate, followed the work of their teams from AKOM. The data were evaluated instantly. Necessary interventions were made. Although the intensity of snowfall in Istanbul increased to 90 percent in the evening with the scorecard holiday, there was no road closed in the city. There was no problem in traffic.

5 THOUSAND TONS OF SALT, 6.5 TONS OF SOLUTION SPILLED

The teams carried out work in line with the messages received from BEUS (Ice Early Warning System), which was established at 60 points throughout Istanbul. Boxes of salt were left at critical points. In the light of the incoming data, snow puddles and icing at critical points such as overpasses, bus stops and squares were immediately intervened by the teams. IMM Road Maintenance team has used 5 thousand tons of salt and 6,5 tons of solution so far.

IMM WELCOME THE HOMELESS

The homeless people living on the street were hosted in IMM facilities after being persuaded by the police teams and passed through their health checks. A care center with a capacity of 300 people in Esenyurt for men and a guest house in Kayışdağı with a capacity of 100 people for women started to serve. These centers provide clothing, hygiene and medicine support. In addition, after the health screening, homeless people who test positive for COVID will be placed in isolation in designated areas. These studies are carried out by the IMM Health Department.

MOBILE BUFFETS ARE READY

Despite the scenario of citizens who prefer to use their personal cars in heavy snowfalls, they are stuck in traffic, IMM: keeps mobile kiosks that serve hot drinks, soup and water.

APPROXIMATELY 2 TONS OF FOOD DAILY TO OUR BEST FRIENDS

IMM Veterinary Services will continue to work for our lives on the street without interruption on cold days. Notifications of sick and injured animals to Hello 153 continue to be received for 24 hours. As part of the night work in the two designated nursing homes, 21 personnel, 4 vehicles and stray animals will be examined, treated and cared for. Food support is provided to stray animals with approximately 500 tons of food per day at 2 points throughout the province.

İSTAÇ ON THE FIELD WITH 780 STAFF

European and Anatolian Side City Cleaning Chief teams, primarily regarding the heavy snowfall expected today; Pedestrian overpass-underpass-walkways, stairs, waiting areas at stops on the E-5 route; It carries out cleaning operations such as snow shoveling in front of public institutions such as coastal roads, hospitals and schools. Medical waste collection works on the European and Anatolian sides were not interrupted.

33 CONSTRUCTION MACHINES ARE ON WORK ON METROBUS LINE

While 142 tractors with buckets will be assigned to keep the village roads open, 11 cranes and rescuers will be on duty. Along the Metrobus route, 33 construction machines are ready to respond to any negativities that may arise.

7 THOUSAND 421 STAFF, 1.582 VEHICLES ON DUTY 7/24

A total of 7 personnel, 421 snow-fighting vehicles and construction equipment are on duty to keep the main streets and squares open in Istanbul. A total of 1.582 tons of salt and a total of 350 tons of solution in 206 different tanks are working non-stop for snow-fighting at stations installed at 56 different points of the city.
