The country's top planning body has approved two new railway projects. The total amount of investment for these projects amounts to 238,26 billion yuan (approximately $37,4 billion). One of these projects is the high-speed rail line connecting China's major cities, Tianjin in the north with Weifang in the east, the National Development and Reform Commission reported. the other is a high-speed rail line connecting the northwestern city of Xi'an to the southwestern metropolis of Chongqing.

Data on previous projects show that a total of 2021 kilometers of new railway lines have been put into service in 4. 208 thousand 2 kilometers of this is the high-speed train line.
