The foundation of the metro, which will be implemented by the Metropolitan Municipality and considered as a vision project by Vahap Seçer, the Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, is laid on January 3, on the 100th anniversary of Mersin's liberation from the enemy occupation. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and IYI Party Chairman Meral Akşener will also attend the ceremony, which will begin the 3-stage rail systems era in Mersin and will take place at 15.00 in Cumhuriyet Square. Inviting all Mersin residents to the groundbreaking ceremony, President Seçer said, “I invite all my fellow citizens to be together on this special and meaningful day.”
“Mersin's biggest local project ever”
Stating that the Metro Project is a civilization project, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer said, “We will lay the foundation of the Metro on January 100, 3, the 2022th anniversary of Mersin's liberation. January 3, 2022 will be a new milestone for Mersin. This project also has the distinction of being the biggest local project of Mersin ever. With this project, in which the era of rail systems will begin in Mersin, we aim to enter a new century by opening new horizons for Mersin and to leave a more livable brand city to future generations.”
“Metro will make very important contributions to city life”
Reminding that the Rail Systems Project consists of 3 stages and that the first stage, the foundation of the 13.4-kilometer underground metro construction covering the old service building of Mezitli Municipality in the west and the old bus station in the east, the foundation will be laid, Mayor Seçer stated that the underground metro in question will also consist of 11 stations.
Stating that the metro will make a very important contribution to the city life, Mayor Seçer said, “Metro is a very comfortable, very fast, very cheap public transportation model, but it has other important values that it will add to the city. It will once connect the 4 districts of the city with the center. People with different socio-economic and socio-cultural structures living in 4 central districts will also have the opportunity to reach other regions much more easily via the Metro.”
