Stating that there are no symptoms in the early stages of cervical cancer, Prof. Dr. İlkkan Dünder, “Among the complaints of the patients; vaginal discharge, drip-like non-menstrual bleeding, bloody discharge, bleeding after sexual contact are more common. In the advanced stages, symptoms such as weakness, weight loss, groin-back pain, swelling in the legs come along with these complaints.
HPV vaccine, the most important way to prevent cervical cancer
Stating that HPV is the cause of both cervical cancer and precursor lesions of cervical cancer, Prof. Dr. Dunder said that HPV is accepted as the cause of 99 percent of cervical cancer today. Stating that the most important measure that can be taken to prevent cervical cancer is the HPV vaccine, Prof. Dr. Dunder said, “Thanks to the HPV vaccine, which has been used safely in the world for about 15 years and with excellent results, the number of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer is decreasing day by day. Our biggest expectation is that this disease will disappear thanks to the HPV vaccine. In addition to the vaccine; Monogamous (monogamous) sexual life, condom use, paying attention to hygiene, staying away from cigarettes and similar substances, keeping the immune system high and avoiding causes that may lower it are among the factors that minimize the risk of contracting this disease.
What should be done for early diagnosis?

Dr. Dunder said the following about the diagnosis and treatment methods of cervical cancer: “For the early diagnosis of cervical cancer; It is very important to go to regular gynecologist check-ups, to have a 'smear test' at certain intervals and to have HPV checked. Cervical cancer is treated with surgical methods in the early stages and with the combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the more advanced stages.
