Bursa City Council Call to Chain Markets

Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan issued a press release after the exorbitant price increase and the decrease in foreign currency, after the discounts were not reflected on the shelf.

Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan declared that there has been an excessive increase in basic foods as a result of the fact that the dollar rate has risen to 18 liras due to drought, climate crisis, epidemic and various reasons that have made its impact on a global scale recently. Underlining that the dollar lost more than 40 percent of its value overnight after the currency-protected TL time deposit system announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Orhan said, “While the currency-protected TL time deposit system continues, on the other hand, you can buy the same product on the same day with the 'currency excuse'. Those who raise three times do not lower prices. The exorbitant increases in basic necessities are not taken back. After the decrease in exchange rates, our citizens turned their eyes to discounts on the products in the markets. Although discount statements were made from companies, they were not at the expected level and remained superficial. Taking into account the demand of the society, the food retailers should go to discounts and the inspections in this direction should be tightened by 'applying the price in favor of the consumer by law' in the markets.

Finally, Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan once again called upon the chain markets to 'review their price policies, stop the exorbitant price increase and go to discounts, especially in basic consumer goods'.
