Ministry Continues Occupational Health and Safety Support to Underground Mining Operations

The support given to underground mining workplaces in the field of occupational health and safety continues in 2022 as part of the Financial Support and Guidance Program of the Improvement of Occupational Health and Safety in Mining Project (MISGEP).

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security provides technical guidance for capacity building in the field of occupational health and safety, along with financial support to mining workplaces.

Within the scope of the project, the seventh of the financial support payments given in return for the occupational health and safety services received by the underground mining enterprises was realized. Grant support of 1,1 million TL and 6,4 million TL in total was provided to beneficiary workplaces in December. With this support, the Ministry not only aims to create safe working environments, but also to ensure all kinds of well-being of employees at their workplaces.

In addition to the grant support, the second site visits by Ministry experts to 80 underground mining enterprises, which are beneficiaries of the program, started in December. Currently, site visits of 62 underground mining workplaces have been completed. In these field visits, which are generally far from the city centers and where geological and climatic conditions are severe, on-site observations are made and solutions are produced for the needs of the field. The second site visits of all beneficiaries are planned to be completed by the end of January.

The first meeting to evaluate the program with the representatives of the beneficiary underground mining enterprises was held before the World Miners' Day. At the meeting, where mutual views were exchanged with the business owners, mining employers stated that the grant payments provided an important support to the businesses, especially during the pandemic process.

Financial support and guidance work within the scope of the program will continue until April 2023.
