The freight train, which makes the Erzincan-Erzurum expedition, was trying to change the switch at the train station in the Mercan town of Tercan district, while its locomotive and a wagon partially derailed.

Officers were called to the station to get the freight train back on track and continue on its way. The Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) officials, who came to the region from Erzurum, carried out work.

In the meantime, the Touristic Eastern Express Train, which goes from Kars to Ankara using the same line, also waited for a while. Tercan District Governor Musa Kazım Çelik, who came to the region, examined the rescue efforts.

As the freight train, which was re-launched, continued on its way, the Touristic East Express resumed its course to Ankara.

Mercan Town Mayor Bayram Bilici said that the Touristic East Express, which uses the same route, could not continue on its way for a while because a freight train in the town partly derailed while changing the switch.

Stating that they took action to prevent the passengers from being victimized, Bilici said, “We offered Mercan's famous doner kebab to our passengers while they were waiting, to show our hospitality. Our aim here is to meet the needs of our passengers and to create a beautiful memory about Mercan, which they will never forget, accompanied by drums and horns. What we do with our passengers sohbetThey expressed their satisfaction with the hospitality of the Mercan people.” he said.
