IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, prof. Dr. He attended the "Anatolian Awards 2021" ceremony given by the Baksı Culture and Arts Foundation, founded by Hüsametin Koçan. The award of the famous painter, writer and poet Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, who was deemed worthy of the visual arts award, was received from İmamoğlu by his grandson, Rahmi Eyüboğlu, who bears the same name. The ceremony was attended by grandson Eyüboğlu saying, “My dear President and his colleagues wanted to name a park 'Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu'. And you know, the President has 'non-working friends'. They rejected this offer”. Responding to Torun Eyüboğlu with the joke, "Now, someone probably said or may have said, 'This stage was planned,'" İmamoğlu said, "If you want to taste the beauties of life, there are very good tastes to be tasted in this city, this country and the people of this country. What skill do some people have to inflict or inflict pain rather than taste it; I am surprised sometimes. I pray that God will give wisdom to that mind. Where art and artists are the light and they are illuminated, there is no unhappiness and despair.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, prof. Dr. He attended the "Anatolian Awards 2021" ceremony, which was organized for the second time this year by the Baksı Culture and Arts Foundation, of which Hüsametin Koçan is the founder and Chairman of the Board, with the title of "Greeting the Past". At the ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Harbiye, the famous painter, writer and poet Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu was awarded the visual arts award. Rahmi Eyüboğlu, the grandson of the deceased artist, received the award from İmamoğlu. Giving an emotional speech, grandson Eyüboğlu started his words by saying, “If my grandfather had received an award with the name 'Anatolia', I am sure he would have cried loudly”.

EYÜBOĞLU: “THEY REJECTED, WHO WAS BEDRİ RAHMİ EYÜBOĞLU; DID NOT KNOW

Reminding that İBB wanted to give the name of the late artist Eyüboğlu to a park on Diriliş Caddesi in Ümraniye Armağanevler Mahallesi, Eyüboğlu said, “My dear President and his colleagues wanted to name a park 'Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu'. And you know, the President has 'non-working friends'. They rejected this offer. And I'm sure friends who refused, who was Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu; they didn't know. That's why I would like to thank Mr. President for making the word 'hope' green in us again. Thank you all for honoring my grandfather with this award. I would also like to thank the culture and art friends who occupied this hall.”

İMAMOĞLU: “A GREAT HONOR FOR ME”

Taking the floor after Torun Eyüboğlu, İmamoğlu started his speech with the joke, “Now, probably, someone has said or may have said, 'This scene was planned'. "There was never such a plan," said İmamoğlu. I would like to thank Mr. Rahmi for the nice words.” Reminding that they named the exhibition hall in Atatürk Cultural Center, which they opened during the Beylikdüzü Mayoralty, after Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, İmamoğlu said, “It is a great honor for me as well. We had a nice sharing with Rahmi Bey there, too.”

“WE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE THEIR NAMES”

Emphasizing that Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu and people like him will continue to keep their names alive, İmamoğlu said, “Only a parliamentary decision cannot prevent this responsibility. I said to my friends in the parliament; 'Did you ask? Why did they say no?' The answer I got is this: They are back; 'why did you say no?' They too have returned; 'We don't know!' They don't know why they said no. Such a situation happened. It's sad" shared the information. Expressing his pleasure in visiting the Baksı Museum, which Koçan established in Bayburt, İmamoğlu said, "I would like to thank our teacher Hüsamettin Koçan, who built that beautiful museum, created that environment and brought it into existence with all its creative elements, and his precious wife."

“HOW SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE SKILL TO SURVIVE; I'M SURPRISE"

Reading the poems that Eyüboğlu, who is a graduate of Trabzon High School like himself, wrote for Trabzon and Istanbul, İmamoğlu emphasized that there are messages and lessons for everyone in the lines of the deceased artist. Stating that the cities, the country and its people should be treated with care, İmamoğlu said:

“I think we can be in a completely different part of the world that way. We are the ones who have to protect this heritage of today. I consider myself lucky to experience this essence and its works over and over again. If you really want to taste the beauties of life, there are very good tastes to be tasted in this city, this country and the people of this country. Where do some people look in life and what skill do they have to inflict or inflict pain rather than taste it; I am surprised sometimes. I pray that God will give wisdom to that mind. Where art and artists are the light and illuminated by them, there is no unhappiness and despair. I am here with these feelings.”

REQUEST REJECTED ON JANUARY 14

On January 14, the IMM Assembly discussed the proposal to give the name of the painter, poet and writer “Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu” to the eponymous park built by the Metropolitan Municipality on Diriliş Street in Ümraniye Armağanevler Mahallesi. Upon the petition filed by CHP Ümraniye Municipality Council member Sacit Eyüboğlu, who is also Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu's relative, the IMM Directorate of Maps deemed it appropriate to name the park in question as “Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu” and sent the proposal to the City Council for approval. The proposal sent by the IMM Map Directorate was not approved by the AK Party group in the IMM Assembly. The AK Party group, which has a majority in the parliament, did not specify the reason why it did not see the proposal as appropriate. The proposal, in which the CHP group gave the acceptance vote, was rejected by the majority of the votes.
