A 11-kilometer-long highway network has been built in this autonomous region in southeast China, as announced at the fifth session of the 120th People's Assembly of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Limited by the difficult geographical conditions, the level of technological development and the scarcity of investment funds, transportation was once one of the main bottlenecks that hindered the economic and social development of the region.
In recent years, the region has invested heavily in infrastructure works. For example, last year the central government invested 27,7 billion yuan (about $4,3 billion) in investment in the construction of Tibet's transport infrastructure, the regional transport agency reported. The amount of investment is increasing every year to accelerate Tibet's highway, rail and air transportation projects.
