Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer attended the 2022 Roadmap Meeting for Combating Violence Against Women. In his speech at the meeting, Özer stated that as the Ministry of National Education, they will give all kinds of support to the process of preventing violence against women.
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık, Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül attended the meeting on the "Roadmap for 2022 in Combating Violence Against Women".
In his speech at the meeting, Minister Özer stated that they, as the Ministry of National Education, will provide all kinds of support to the process of preventing violence against women, as before, and drew attention to the fact that one of the most critical issues at this point is "education".
Pointing out that there has been a huge transformation in the field of education in the last 20 years, Özer stated that access to education has increased significantly at all levels of education, from pre-school to higher education.
Minister Özer stated that the keywords of the transformation are "massification" and "universalization", that many schools and classrooms were built in the last 20 years, and that the number of classrooms per teacher decreased significantly by hiring a large number of teachers.
“For the first time, we have become a country that catches OECD averages. Our daughters were the ones who benefited the most from this massification. As of 2014, the schooling rate of our girls in all education levels has increased, and for the first time, it has exceeded the schooling rate of boys, especially at the secondary and higher education levels. This is very critical data. Because strengthening the social status of our women is directly related to education and employment. Hopefully, in this process, as the Ministry, we will focus on the process with all our friends and make very serious improvements, especially regarding the access of our girls to pre-school education.”
Recently, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife, Emine Erdoğan, “Where were we?” Reminding that the project was started, Özer said, “The most important feature of this project was that our women, who had somehow left their education, were included in education with the opportunities offered by the Ministry of National Education. The process continues very successfully.” he said.
Explaining that a valuable move was made in terms of facilitating access to employment by reducing the time to finish high school over the age of 18 to 2 years, and thus making women much stronger in society, Minister Özer stated that the initiatives made in recent years regarding vocational education also offer important opportunities to facilitate the transition of women to the labor market.
Özer stated that, as the Ministry, guidance studies on violence against women, awareness of violence, bullying, cyberbullying and all these concepts related to women are carried out successfully through the guidance research centers affiliated to the General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services, and that public education centers can quickly obtain certification. He said he was running the process.
Stating that the scope of these services will continue by expanding in 2022, Minister of National Education Özer said, “The number of our citizens benefiting from public education centers has reached 4,6 million. We aim to increase this number to 2022 million by 10. The biggest beneficiaries of this will be our women.” said.
On the occasion of the meeting, Özer celebrated the 10 January Working Journalists' Day for all members of the press.
