Marmaray Has Carried 642 Million People Since Its Opening

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu pointed out that Marmaray carried the transportation of Istanbul in heavy snowfall, and announced that 4 million 1 thousand people were transported in Marmaray in 250 days, and that 628 thousand Istanbulites preferred Marmaray when it was free.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made a written statement with Marmaray, which is operated by the General Directorate of TCDD Transportation. Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “Due to the snowfall, which started on Sunday, January 23, 2022 and gradually increased in intensity, Istanbul residents, who could not use private cars and road public transportation vehicles, turned to rail systems. Gebze-Halkalı Istanbulites flocked to Marmaray, which is the fastest and most economical transportation alternative between Asia and Europe. As TCDD Tasimacilik, we offered 23.00-hour transportation service to Istanbul by arranging additional flights at half-hour intervals between 06.00 and 24 in addition to the normal voyage hours to meet this passenger demand.

Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that the most intense demand for Marmaray, which is integrated with other transportation systems and included in the Istanbulkart transfer system, is at Yenikapı, Sirkeci, Ayrılık Çeşmesi, Üsküdar, Bakırköy and Söğütlüçeşme Pendik stations, and said, "We transported a total of 1 million 26 passengers between January 2022 and January 10, 221.
