Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship products, the Xiaomi 12 series, in China. Starting with this new series, Xiaomi's flagship products will now feature models in two different sizes. Powered by the latest Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 chipset, Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro stand out with their industry-leading DisplayMate A+ OLED screens and powerful viewing features. Alongside the new Xiaomi 12 series, the company also launched its connectivity innovations, new additions to the AIoT portfolio, and MIUI 13.
Flagship performance with Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1
Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro raise the bar in next-generation computing with the Snapdragon® 9 Gen 8 platform, which is Qualcomm's most advanced chipset with Armv1 architecture to date. In terms of graphics processing, GPU capabilities of both devices have been increased by 30 percent and energy efficiency by 25 percent. The 7th generation artificial intelligence engine performs up to 5 times better than the previous generation. The 3-circuit ISP stands out with its 18-bit data processing capability and has 4096 times more sampling capacity compared to its predecessor.
Both devices are equipped with LPDDR6400 RAM that supports transfer rates up to 5 Mbps. Thanks to the high storage performance of the new generation UFS 3.1, the sequential write speed is greatly increased compared to the previous series, reaching an astonishing 1450 MB per second.
For smooth and stable performance, the Xiaomi 12 features an extra-large 2600 mm² VC plate for cooling and a 10000 mm² graphite cooling system to dissipate heat in a lightweight and compact body. In addition, the antenna area is covered with white graphene. Xiaomi 12 Pro uses 2900 mm² VC for better cooling performance and 3 large graphite plates for heat dissipation.
Breakthrough imaging capabilities
The Xiaomi 12 Series maximizes the imaging level with a new calculation algorithm that greatly improves capture speeds for fast and stable imaging performance. Xiaomi continues to innovate its image processing and architecture for over two years, and its heterogeneous parallel computing greatly shortens the continuous shooting range. This improves the experience when shooting in burst mode. Significantly reduced shutter lag also delivers a fast and responsive overall camera experience.
Both devices feature intelligent visual tracking derived from Xiaomi Cyberdog. This means the devices can simultaneously identify human eyes and figures, as well as pets, for stable and accurate focusing. The advanced machine learning algorithm allows the system to quickly analyze the features of the focused object, even if it changes shape, angle or color. It is enough to just double-tap the device in order to follow the moving objects smoothly.
The Xiaomi 12 has a 1/1.56 inch sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP telemacro camera. Xiaomi 12 Pro, on the other hand, has a triple camera setup, each of which is 50MP, developed with the latest technologies. The main camera of the device is powered by Sony's ultra-wide 2.44/4 inch IMX1 sensor using 1μm 1.28-in-707 pixels. This advanced camera setup increases its light capture ability by 49 percent over the previous generation. This, combined with Xiaomi's own Night Mode algorithm, allows for better results and faster shooting in extreme low-light scenarios.
Both other cameras use a 115MP JN2 sensor, which stands out with an 50° ultra-wide angle of view and 1 telephoto cameras for clearer portrait shots. Night Mode, which is also available on both cameras, ensures the best results in low light at all focal lengths.
Industry-leading displays in two sizes
Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro achieved the highest ever display performance rating of A+ from DisplayMate, achieving a record of 15 Smartphone Display Performance (15 Smartphone Display Performance).
The Xiaomi 12 has a 2400-inch flexible OLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 1100, 16000 nits peak brightness, 120 brightness level settings and 6,28Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi 12 also ensures accurate representation of 1,07 billion colors on the screen thanks to the TrueColor display and professional color calibration.
Equipped with a 5-inch second-generation, power-efficient 6,73K display using Samsung E2 material, LTPO technology and micro-lens technology, Xiaomi 12 Pro intelligently improves energy savings and maximizes viewing experience. It offers 3200×1440 resolution and detailed image clarity for best-in-class image quality. Xiaomi 12 Pro has 1000 nits HBM support, which allows clear viewing even under strong light. Xiaomi 12 Pro delivers true-to-life images in HDR videos with a peak brightness of 1500 nits and astonishing contrast, as well as deep details and full black colours. Both devices reveal stunning HDR images thanks to HDR10+ and Dolby Vision® support. Thanks to Dolby Vision®, users enjoy an ultra-vivid display powered by incredible brightness, contrast and color full of detail. The models were offered for sale with black, blue, purple and green vegan leather options.
Both devices are designed for the best sound quality
Both Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro have symmetrical dual speakers. 120w charging and 4.500mah battery in a compact body
Xiaomi 12 combines an extremely compact body design and a large 4.500mAh battery for all-day use and battery worry-free living. Xiaomi 12 Pro, on the other hand, stands out with its industry's first 120W single-cell 4.600mAh battery design. This single-cell battery offers an additional increased capacity of 400mAh without increasing the overall size compared to dual-cell batteries. In addition, Xiaomi solves the industry problems related to both high output and capacity with its Surge P1 integrated circuit, meeting the need for a single-cell battery with over 100W charging.
MIUI 13 – fast and stable
At the launch in China, the MIUI 13 version was introduced, as well as new smartphones. The new MIUI 13 offers a fast and stable software experience and is now extended beyond smartphones and tablets to AIoT devices such as smartwatches, speakers and TVs, improving connectivity capabilities.
MIUI 52, whose stability has been increased by about 13 percent, focuses on improving basic functions in general. The new system focuses on optimizing computing capabilities for core applications during heavy usage, with features such as Focused Algorithms, Atomized Memory and Liquid Storage developed by Xiaomi. MIUI 13 prevents and reduces the degradation of the device's read and write capabilities by 36 percent over a 5-month period with Atomized Memory and Fluent Storage technologies. This extends the life of the devices.
As of the third quarter of 2021, the number of devices connected to Xiaomi's IoT platform exceeded 3 million. MIUI 400 comes with the beta version of Mi Smart Hub, which will help achieve a more connected experience between smart devices while leading the industry with its smart hardware portfolio. Mi Smart Hub allows users to seamlessly share content such as music, screen and even apps across multiple devices and find nearby devices with a simple gesture.
MIUI 13 includes important features for further customization as well as connectivity. It offers a unique operating system experience with new widgets, dynamic wallpapers and more.
Xiaomi Watch S1 and Xiaomi Buds 3
Xiaomi also announced three new wearables with new colors, namely the Xiaomi Watch S1, the Xiaomi Buds 3 and the Xiaomi Buds 3 Pro.
Designed for users who are constantly on the go, to lead a stylish, smart and active lifestyle, Xiaomi Watch S1 gives an elegant look with its stainless steel bezel, sapphire glass screen and comfortable leather strap. The device's crystal-clear 1,43-inch large AMOLED touchscreen does much more than just show the time, making it easy to navigate through messages, notifications, calls and app controls, even on the go. It offers up to 117 fitness modes and 5ATM water resistance, as well as comprehensive health information. It provides up to 12 days of regular use and up to 24 days of standby time on a single charge.
Xiaomi has also launched its new TWS product, the Xiaomi Buds 3. The new audio product stands out with its dual magnetic dynamic driver and Hi-Fi sound features for first-class listening. It also has up to 40 dB of noise cancellation and three ANC modes for different scenarios. It offers a total usage time of up to 7 hours on a single charge, and up to 32 hours with its charging box.
