With the cooperation of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, a special event was prepared in memory of the martyrs of Sarıkamış. The train service, known as the Eastern Express, will launch a virtual expedition under the name "Sarıkamış Memorial Express".
During the First World War, 1 thousand soldiers who were martyred in the Sarıkamış Operation, carried out by the Ottoman Empire in the Sarıkamış district of Kars, especially on the Allahuekber and Soğanlı mountains between 22 December 1914 and 5 January 1915, against the Russian army in order to liberate the occupied lands, will be commemorated with activities.
Within the scope of the commemoration events, the train service, known as the "Eastern Express" in the public, will be carried out in a virtual environment under the name "Sarıkamış Memorial Express", in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. It will be possible to create a virtual ticket for travel with Sarıkamış Commemorative Express.
In memory of the heroes of Sarıkamış, the first two tickets were bought by the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu.
With the event, it is aimed to ensure that the young people do not forget the sacrifices of the heroes who defended the homeland despite the freezing cold and lack of equipment, to connect with the martyrs by sharing the virtual tickets they will create for the Sarıkamış Commemorative Express on social media and to be a part of this historical event, and to increase the level of awareness in the society about the Sarıkamış Operation.
