TÜRKSAT 5B Communications Satellite to be Launched on 19 December with Falcon 9 Rocket

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that the Türksat 5B satellite will be launched on Sunday, December 19 at 06:58, with a Space X Falcon 9 rocket. Emphasizing that the two communication equipment produced in Turkey are used in the Türksat 5B satellite, Karaismailoğlu said, “In this way, for the first time, the equipment designed and produced locally in a commercial communication satellite will be sent into space with the Türksat 5B satellite.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made important statements about the 5B satellite at Türksat. Stating that they received information about satellite, cable TV and e-government services in Türksat, Karaismailoğlu said that they are examining the ongoing studies. Reminding that they sent the Türksat 5A communication satellite into space on January 8, 2021, Karaismailoğlu noted that they recently received the Türksat 5B communication satellite from the AIRBUS facilities.

Noting that the satellite was shipped from France to the United States on November 29, Transport Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “The preparations for the launch continue. Turkey's activities in the field of communication will be discussed, Türksat 5B satellite will be launched into orbit and we will bring together the young people of our country. We will hold the 'Satellite Technologies Week' on 2-18 December at Türksat Gölbaşı Campus. Türksat 19B satellite; On Sunday, December 5, 19, at 2021:06, Space X will launch with a Falcon 58 rocket. With Türksat 9B to be delivered in orbit, the number of active communication satellites in Turkey will increase to 5, and the total number of satellites will increase to 5.

IT WILL BE OUR STRONGEST SATELLITE

Referring to the innovations that the new communication satellite Türksat 5B will add to the satellite fleet, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“Türksat 5B will increase Turkey's KA band capacity, which has satellite and communication facilities, by 15 times. Türksat 5B, which will be our most powerful satellite in terms of payload and power values, has 20 times more efficiency than fixed class satellites. With our satellite, which will have a very large coverage capacity, besides Turkey; We will be able to address the whole of the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, North and East Africa, Nigeria, South Africa and its immediate neighbors. Our new satellite will also provide a total data transmission capacity of more than 55 Gbps with Ka-Band payload using frequency reuse and multi-beam coverage concepts.”

IT WILL PROVIDE COST AND VALUE ADDED ADVANTAGE

Karaismailoğlu said, “We see one of the best examples of our domestic and national satellite construction works in our country in Türksat 5B”, and Türksat A.Ş. He emphasized that the 'Domestic Industry Contribution Program' determined by Türksat 5B was implemented. Karaismailoğlu stated that two communication equipments produced in Turkey are used in Türksat 5B satellite and made the following assessments:

“In this way, for the first time, domestically designed and manufactured equipment in a commercial communication satellite will be sent into space with the Türksat 5B satellite. Our satellite, which will serve for more than 42 years in 35 degrees east orbit; at the same time, it will take its place effectively in commercial sectors such as maritime and aviation. In addition, with the high data capacity provided by Türksat 5B satellite, we will be able to easily establish internet infrastructure in places that cannot be accessed by terrestrial infrastructure. Türksat 4,5B, which has a launch weight of 15 tons and a power capacity of 5 kW, is equipped with a new generation electric propulsion system. Our new satellite, which will also provide backup services to Türksat 3A and Türksat 4A satellites, will also protect our frequency usage rights in these orbits. Beyond its technical features, Türksat 5B will provide an important cost and added value advantage for our public institutions and private companies with the increase in communication capacity it will bring. It is aimed to increase the export revenues of Türksat and our country with our satellite, which will improve Türksat's competitive power in the global market and will be used effectively in commercial sectors such as maritime and aviation.”

6A PROJECT WILL BREAK GROUND IN TURKEY'S SATELLITE AND SPACE WORKS

Expressing that Türksat A.Ş.'s Türksat 6A project, which is under construction in Turkey with domestic and national resources in the coming period, will break new ground in Turkey's satellite and space studies, Karaismailoğlu said, "With Türksat 6A, our country has rights between producing and exporting countries. will take its place. The distance that our country, which was only a spectator in space studies until 2002, has covered in this field in 19 years is one of the important results of the stability provided by the AK Party government. With our domestic and national satellites, we will be among the top 10 countries in the world that can produce satellites. This means that hundreds of millions of dollars, which are likely to be paid to the producing countries for the satellite production cost, remain in our country. We will not be dependent on anyone in an area of strategic importance such as communication. It will also be possible for us to get a share from the satellite industry, which has a global market value of $271 billion. The assembly, integration and tests of TÜRKSAT 6A, which will be the apple of our eye in the global satellite industry, are carried out at Ankara Space Systems Integration and Test Center. We are planning to send our domestic and national satellite Türksat 6A into space in 2023”.

Noting that Turkey's satellite coverage area will also expand thanks to Türksat 6A's eastern coverage, which includes India, Karaismailoğlu said, “To compete with the world's leading countries in satellite and space studies; It is a result of the domestic and national technology move along with the environment of trust and stability in our country in the last 19 years.

NEARLY 57 MILLION 400 THOUSAND REGISTERED USERS BENEFIT FROM E-GOVERNMENT DOOR

Stating that another service coordinated by Türksat A.Ş. is the “e-Government Gateway”, Karaismailoğlu underlined that as of today, approximately 6 million 185 thousand registered users benefit from the e-Government Gateway, which provides 57 thousand 400 different services. Emphasizing that the monthly average of logins exceeded 2021 million in the e-Government Gateway, where more than 2 billion 896 million 250 thousand entries were made in 241, Karaismailoğlu said, “The e-Government Gateway, which we define as the 'short way' to reach our state, is an important part of the electronic service transformation of public and private sector organizations in our country. He is playing a leading role.”
