Since its first voyage, it has made 368 trips and covered a total of 483 thousand 920 kilometers. Thousands of passengers from all walks of life, from photography enthusiasts to travelers, traveled on the Eastern Express route, which was chosen as one of the top 4 train routes in the world by travel writers. However, unfortunately, due to the coronavirus that affected the whole world, we unintentionally interrupted our flights since the middle of March 2020. Today, we are finishing this compulsory stop of our Touristic Orient Express. With the speed we have achieved in the vaccination works, we are returning the Eastern Express to the rails to introduce the beauties of our country, without neglecting the precaution.”

Between Ankara and Kars; In İliç and Erzurum, between Kars and Ankara; It stops in Erzincan, Divriği and Sivas for 3 hours each, allowing group and individual passengers to visit touristic places. Together we will go on an exploration of gastronomy, nature and culture. We continue our efforts to implement many different touristic routes," he said.

Pointing out that the railways were neglected for almost half a century before 2003, and that no nails were driven, so to speak, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments:

“However, we initiated a reform in the railways under the leadership of our President. We have provided our railways with a modern, comfortable and safe structure. We built a total of 213 thousand 2 kilometers of new lines, of which 149 kilometers is YHT. We increased our railway network to 12 kilometers. In addition to the new line construction, we also completely renewed the existing conventional lines. To date, approximately 803 million passengers have traveled by High Speed ​​Trains. The Middle Corridor, known as the route that passes through our country and connects the Far East countries, especially China, to the European Continent. With the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line put into service, we started to use the Middle Corridor actively in the rail freight traffic between China and Europe. The 60 thousand 11 kilometer China-Turkey track is completed in 483 days. In the following years, we are working to shift 12 percent of the annual 5 thousand block train to Europe via China-Russia (Siberia), which is designated as the northern line, to Turkey. We aim to operate 30 block trains per year from the Middle Corridor and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route, and to reduce the 500-day cruise time between China and Turkey to 12 days.”

“With the projects we plan within the scope of the Transport and Logistics Master Plan, we aim to increase the share of railways in land transportation from 5 percent to 11 percent in the first place. We continue the construction of a total of 4 kilometers, of which 7 thousand 357 kilometers are High Speed ​​​​Train and 4 kilometers are conventional lines. We will open the Karaman-Konya high-speed train line into operation soon. Ankara-Sivas, Ankara-Izmir, Halkalı-Our work continues on Kapikule, Bursa-Yenişehir-Osmaneli, Mersin-Adana-Gaziantep, Karaman-Ulukışla, Aksaray-Ulukışla-Mersin-Yenice High Speed ​​​​Train Lines. In addition, we have completed the planning of the tender works for our Ankara-Yozgat (Yerköy)-Kayseri High Speed ​​​​Train Line. Gebze-Sabiha Gökçen Airport-Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge-Istanbul Airport-Çatalca-Halkalı Our work for the High Speed ​​​​Train Project continues. With this awareness, we are resurrecting the railways as if combining the pieces of the mosaic. On the one hand, we are transforming Turkey into an international production and logistics base. On the other hand, we are spreading the development in every field from economy to culture throughout the country.”
