Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerThe introductory meeting of the Elim Sende awareness project, which was implemented in line with the vision of "Another Disability Policy is Possible", was held with the participation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu. Speaking at the meeting at the Historical Gas Factory of the study carried out by the Disabled Services Branch of the Social Projects Department and supported by non-governmental organizations and professional chambers, Mustafa Özuslu said, “As you know, discrimination practices do not always occur consciously. In fact, discriminatory expressions are often used and spread in a rather insidious way as if they are a harmless part of our daily language. For this reason, it has become essential to carry out activities to increase social awareness so that even the slightest kernel of discrimination in our language is not nurtured and grown. It is also obvious that people with disabilities have difficulties in participating in social life due to discriminatory behaviors and practices. I hope we will meet in the days when we will experience living in a more egalitarian, fair and humane environment together in the future.”

“We are carrying out awareness raising activities”

Anıl Kaçar, Head of Social Projects Department, emphasized the importance of the project and said, “We carry out information, awareness, guidance, counseling and empowerment activities for all segments of society, especially the disabled, women, children, youth, the unemployed, the homeless, the uneducated, the elderly and refugees. With this responsibility, we will continue to work hard as the coordinator and part of the Elim Sende project, which was initiated for disabled individuals.” Mentioning that it is very valuable to carry out the project with the common mind and partnership of young people, young volunteers and non-governmental organizations, Anıl Kaçar said, “Relevant stakeholders, especially young people, have been given a real platform, not a decorative one, within the scope of the project. Because young people are not only the speakers of the future but also the speakers of today.”
