Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is ready for winter. Thanks to the icing early warning system (BEUS) set up at 60 points, possible problems will be prevented before they start. Areas that are likely to be icy will be intervened immediately.
IMM teams, who have completed their preparations against snowfall, will be on duty with 7 thousand 421 personnel and 1.582 vehicles. The teams on duty will keep watch at 468 different points in Istanbul. 206 thousand tons of salt will be kept ready to prevent the traffic from being affected by adverse weather conditions. 25 different solution tanks, each of which can produce 64 tons of solution per hour, will also be ready to use to prevent possible icing.
WINTER PREPARATION EXERCISES
The first exercise of the 2021-2022 winter work will be coordinated tonight from the IMM Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM). Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) teams completed their preparations against the cold and rainy weather expected to be effective as of tonight.
ICE EARLY WARNING SYSTEM
Possible icing will be intervened immediately in line with the messages coming from BEUS (Ice Early Warning System) established at 60 points. 206 thousand tons of salt in the existing warehouses is kept ready against icing at critical points such as overpasses, village roads, bus stops, squares and main roads. Bags of salt were placed at critical points for immediate use.
25 TONS OF SOLUTION IS PRODUCED PER HOUR
64 tons of solution per hour is produced in 25 solution tanks, which have undergone necessary control at the facilities located in Kartal campus of IMM Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination Department.
RESCUE CRANES WILL PROVIDE 24 HOURS SERVICE
11 towing cranes will be kept ready at important points on the Anatolian and European sides for vehicles that are likely to break down due to the cold weather and stay on the road. In addition, in heavy snowfalls: 'Mobile Buffets' will be on duty to serve hot drinks, soup and water to the emergency services of hospitals, piers, and drivers waiting in traffic on the roads.
SPECIAL MEASURE FOR VILLAGES
IMM, which also works for village roads, delivered 142 tractors to the village headmen. Thanks to the support apparatus called knives, the officials will be able to interfere with the village roads that are likely to be closed with tractors.
500 TONS OF FOOD SUPPORT AT 1 POINTS FOR OUR BEST FRIENDS
With the cooling of the weather, dry food with high nutritional value will be provided for stray stray animals that have difficulty in finding food in the remote parts of the city. IMM Veterinary Services Directorate will provide 500 ton of food support per day at 1 points for our dear friends.
