Reminding that they made a declaration of will for the 13 Olympics on July 2036, İmamoğlu said, “Every person who has done and watched sports for years knows that; A team united around a goal, working and playing in harmony with each other, is never easily defeated. Let's all show the success of forming the best team for Istanbul, for our country, for 2036, together with the people of Istanbul, together with all the institutions and organizations of our country.”
IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlutalked about Istanbul's "Olympic journey" at the "Brand & Sport Summit" event to be held at Maslak ESA 9 Arena on December 10-42, where relations between brands and sports were discussed. Saying, "Where there is sports, there is always individual development, social transformation and hope for the future," İmamoğlu said, "Sports is a phenomenon that creates value with the economy surrounding it, as well as what happens on the field. We have been following the success stories of brands that come together with sports for many years.” Pointing out that the basic material of brands and sports is people, İmamoğlu said, "The first priority of us local governments is to touch people's lives and to make their lives better and more beautiful."
“WE ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS COMPETITION”
Reminding that as İBB, they made a declaration of will for the 13 Olympics and Paralympic Games last July, İmamoğlu said, “Even though our statement was discussed in some circles, the general atmosphere and feedback were positive, which made me and all my friends very happy. Naturally, we are not alone in this competition. Candidacy studies have started in different countries. from Russia; A decision will be made between Kazan, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok. President Putin announced his support for the candidacy of all three cities. China will make a choice among nearly 2036 candidate cities. Other countries from Asia that are pursuing candidacy are Indonesia and India. England and Italy are discussing which cities they will nominate from Europe, Canada and Mexico from the Americas”.
“ISTANBUL IS A CITY STRONG TO WIN AGAINST THE STRONGEST COMPETITOR”
Emphasizing that they closely follow the nomination processes of the International Olympic Committee, İmamoğlu said, “I can easily say that; yet, we do not have a rival with specific targets as in our declaration of will promotion. No other city has yet emerged that shows what it wants and expresses its will as much as Istanbul. Our magnificent presentation was covered in the international press. We think that we are sending a serious message to every opponent who dreams of an Olympics in 2036.” Pointing out that they have not seen a city similar to Istanbul among the candidates that have been announced so far, İmamoğlu said, "As someone who has experienced and won many elections in my life, I can say this: Istanbul is a city strong enough to win against the strongest opponent. As long as all stakeholders focus on the target and let's act together. Can we do this? Of course we can.”
SHARE THE “SPORTS FIGURES” OF ISTANBUL
Stating that their journey to make Istanbul a 'sports city' continues, İmamoğlu stated that they aim to increase the interest in sports in all segments of 16 million people and to make sports accessible to anyone who wants it, and shared the following information:
“We added 51 more to our 12 sports facilities across Istanbul in this short period of time. In total, we reached 63 facilities. We have provided 224 schools with gyms. In these facilities, we personally deliver sports to an average of 1 million 600 thousand people annually. When we add our online works that have developed with the pandemic, we have determined that we have touched 3,5 million Istanbulites. We certainly do not think that we have completed our work unless this figure exceeds at least 7-8 million, that is, half of our population. With more than 2.300 employees and 631 trainers, we offer services to Istanbul residents who want to do active sports in 17 branches, 25 of which are Olympic. We are overhauling all our sports facilities and reintroducing the idle ones to sports. There were very backward facilities due to indifference. We are working effectively in the company of experts so that sports can be done in accordance with modern conditions.
“WE BELIEVE IN ALL THE GOALS WE WILL REACH ON THIS JOURNEY”
Saying, “Since our declaration of will, we have taken the first steps of our long-term journey,” İmamoğlu said, “We believe in all the goals we will reach in this journey. During the journey, we know that together with the society, we will also reach a very special change and transformation. Istanbul, the people of Istanbul, all the citizens of Turkey, acting together and in a planned way, allows us to reach every goal that seems difficult. In his speech, İmamoğlu also included his own sports story and management process, and made the following call:
“I can say that I have mastered many topics that will be discussed here for 2 days. Sports is a phenomenon that embraces everyone who is interested in it and gives good habits such as not only health but also social environment and programmed work. Not accepting defeat, working harder for the next match, fighting in a gentlemanly manner are the qualities I gained from the world of sports. Never give up. Being stable. Keep your excitement high. Everyone here has a story about sports that can tell you how it changed their life. Come, let's work together to bring this effect, which we enjoy being in, that brought us to these days, to wider audiences, and I want us to demonstrate together with all our abilities, I want to produce projects and I want to implement them.
