Stating that brushing the teeth horizontally may cause abrasions on the tooth surface, damage to the gums and recession, Dr. from Medipol Mega University Hospital Periodontology Department. Instructor Member Deniz Arslan explained that sweeping with a sweeping motion at an angle of 45 degrees from the gingiva to the tooth and brushing with circular and circular motions is the most correct method.

Pointing out that dental check-ups should not be interrupted even if there are no complaints, Arslan said, “It is important to clean the intermediate area between the teeth with an interface brush or dental floss after tooth brushing. Because the bristles of any toothbrush cannot reach this interface and perform an effective cleaning. Especially plaque or food residues left in this area will cause bad breath. Cleaning the tongue surface with a suitable tongue brush or the toothbrush you use in your routine also reduces the accumulation of bacteria on the tongue surface. No matter how much we pay attention to oral hygiene, because tartar is caused by saliva, tartar accumulation will occur. Tartar is not an accumulation that a person can remove by brushing. It must be cleaned mechanically by the physician. Therefore, you should go to intermittent check-ups in line with your doctor's recommendation.” made its assessments.

Pointing out that the selection of the most suitable toothbrush and toothpaste for the person should be done together with the dentist, Arslan stated that factors such as bristle type, general shape, quality and comfort of the brush are important when choosing the right toothbrush.

DON'T BE DECEIVED ON THE PACKAGING LOOK AT THE 'FLUORIDE'

Arslan said that in the selection of toothpaste, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that it contains fluoride and to make a choice according to the needs of the person, and stated that choosing the right toothbrush and paste will help protect oral and dental health.

Emphasizing that the person should use toothpaste according to his needs in consultation with the doctor, Arslan concluded his words as follows;

“The most important point to be considered in the selection of toothpaste is that it contains fluoride. Although there are discussions about fluoride today, fluoride is safely included in toothpastes, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Fluoride provides remineralization of the area by acting on the caries on the enamel surface. We do not recommend fluoride pastes only to children under the age of 3, as the paste may be swallowed. Whitening toothpastes, on the other hand, are not suitable for patients with sensitivity problems, especially with abrasions on the tooth surface. Patients with gum problems or sensitivity should use toothpastes for these problems.”
