Within the scope of the Izmir International Humor Festival, which was held for the fifth time this year, the Aziz Nesin Humor Honor Award was given to the theater and cinema artist Müjdat Gezen. The program at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center was attended by the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Tunç Soyer, Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay, artist Müjdat Gezen and guests attended. In the program, a documentary about the life of Müjdat Gezen, who completed his 61st year in art, was screened. In the 95-minute documentary film prepared by journalist Gökmen Ulu, the unknown aspects of Müjdat Gezen were explained as well as his professional life. After the screening of the documentary that made both laugh and sad, the President Tunç Soyerawarded Müjdat Gezen his award.
“Humor does not destroy, it repairs”
President Soyer thanked Gökmen Ulu who prepared the documentary Müjdat Gezen and said, “How many children, students, artists, people our master artist has accumulated… We watched with admiration, either laughing or crying.” Stating that humor is an unrequited call to goodness, Soyer said, “Where explanation ends, humor begins. It shows the invisible. It screams the inexplicable. Humor does not destroy, it repairs. It doesn't tire, it makes you laugh. It makes you think while you laugh. It increases the joy of living together. There are heroes among us who show us from the outside, tell us about the beauty of the ordinary, and always defeat the Timurs with their intelligence and humor.
