Organized by the Social Democracy Foundation with the contributions of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) since 2003, the Local Administrations School was completed this year with the closing lecture given by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen.

The Local Administrations School, where 1000 people have completed their training and been entitled to receive certificates, has been held online for the last two years due to the pandemic. Mayor Büyükerşen, who came together with the participants over zoom, talked about the work carried out in the city in the closing lesson titled “Social Democratic Municipalism in Turkey: The Example of Eskişehir”. In the school program between November 19 and December 6, 2021, topics such as "local governments-institutional structure, urban labor and local government, local governments and equality policies" were covered.

Stating that he is very happy to teach at the School of Local Administrations, even over the internet, Mayor Büyükerşen explained to the participants his projects such as supporting agriculture and animal husbandry, transportation to all parts of the city with light rail systems, affordable and accessible culture and art centers, developed within the framework of the social democratic local government.

The participants, who thanked Mayor Büyükerşen for his explanations, said, “The cities they live in shape some people. Some people also shape the city they live in. You have created a magnificent city by shaping the city you live in”.
