Gaziantep Airport's New Terminal Building Will Open Tomorrow

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that they will open the new terminal building of Gaziantep Airport tomorrow. Karaismailoğlu said that the annual passenger capacity has been increased to 6 million.

Karaismailoğlu, in his written statement, stated that the Gaziantep Airport Terminal Building and Apron construction work has been completed, and the opening will be held tomorrow with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Informing that the new terminal building has been increased from 24 thousand 949 square meters to 72 thousand 593 square meters, Karaismailoğlu used the following statements:

“The annual passenger capacity has increased from 2,5 million to 6 million, the aircraft capacity has increased from 12 to 18, and the parking lot vehicle capacity has increased from 585 to 2 thousand 49. In the new terminal building, where there are 50 counters for check-in, the domestic departure lounge is designed as 5, the arrivals lounge is 850, the international arrivals lounge is 3, and the departure lounge is designed as 741 square meters.

Karaismailoğlu emphasized that they continue to meet the increasing needs with their investments in airlines.

Stating that they have continued to write a success story in aviation for 19 years, Karaismailoğlu drew attention to the fact that the number of aircraft, which was 2003 in 162, increased to 2021 as of November 552.

Karaismailoğlu stated that in the same period, the seat capacity increased by 275 percent from 27 thousand 599 to 103 thousand 529, the number of active airports, which was 2003 in 26, has reached 56 as of today, and it will increase to 61 with new airports to be opened next year.

Stating that the number of destinations served on domestic routes is supported by cross flights, Karaismailoğlu said:

“Turkey's airspace is almost covered with airline networks. The number of countries with which we have air transport agreements increased from 81 to 173. As a result of agreements and negotiations, 2003 new destinations were added to the number of international flight destinations, which was 60 in 275. Our flight network has reached 2021 destinations in 128 countries as of November 335. The total number of passengers, which was 2003 million 34 thousand in 443, increased by 2019 percent in 507 to 209 million. Despite the epidemic that affected the whole world, the total number of passengers in 2020 approached 82 million. In the 2021 months of 11, the total number of passengers exceeded 54 million, an increase of 118 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Karaismailoğlu pointed out that since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic, the aviation industry has been given the necessary support with administrative, technical and financial regulations, and said, “As a result, our country has been among the countries that achieved the fastest normalization in aviation after the epidemic. As a result of the measures taken, the post-epidemic recovery processes were 2019-60% in the world compared to 70, while it was 80-90% in our country.
