Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu pointed out that despite the shrinkage in the world economy after the epidemic, the momentum in the communication sector did not slow down and announced that the sector grew by 19 percent in the third quarter. Stating that the number of mobile subscribers is based on 87 million, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the fiber infrastructure length has exceeded 455 thousand kilometers.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the "Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report" prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority. Emphasizing the issue of digitalization, Karaismailoğlu said that habits have changed with the Kovid-3 epidemic, digitalization in all areas of life; He noted that he is dependent on information and electronic communication technologies. Expressing that every service transferred to the Internet is reflected in the increase in the amount of data used in the networks and the number of connections, Karaismailoğlu stated that the growth that comes with demand should be turned into an opportunity in the coming days. Noting that new demands should be converted into investments, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu stated that the lack of capacity problems at this point shows the continuity in investments.

Reminding that at the end of the 12th Transport and Communication Council held in October, the short, medium and long-term targets in the field of electronic communication were determined together with the sector, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the growth in the sector and the acceleration in investments are of vital importance in order to achieve these targets.

3,6 BILLION TL INVESTMENT MADE

Drawing attention to the impact of the investments made on the sector, Karaismailoğlu stated that in the third quarter of 2021, the net sales revenues in the sector increased by 19 percent and exceeded 23,8 billion liras. Pointing out that the total amount of investments made by operators in the third quarter of the year was around 3,6 billion liras, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said, “While the number of mobile subscribers was 86,9 million, the subscriber prevalence was 104 percent. 80,8 million of these subscribers are 4,5G subscribers.

NUMBER OF BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS INCREASED TO 87,5 MILLION

Noting that the number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers has reached 7,2 million, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the number of mobile numbers carried is 155,1 million in total. Noting that 2,6 million numbers were transferred this quarter, Karaismailoğlu continued as follows:

“Our total broadband internet subscribers reached 69,7 million, of which 87,5 million are mobile. Our broadband internet subscribers increased by 8,2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest proportional increase in the number of subscribers was experienced in the number of 'Fiber to the Home' subscribers with 32,2 percent. This was followed by the number of 'Cable Internet' subscribers with a rate of 10,8 percent. While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 206 GByte, the monthly average usage of mobile subscribers reached 11,3 GByte.”

Underlining that the total fiber infrastructure length in Turkey increased by 10,1 percent and exceeded 455 thousand kilometers, Karaismailoğlu added that the development in the sector is expected to continue in the last quarter of the year.
