Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, said, “Although the road networks we have expanded and traffic activity have increased by 19 percent compared to 170 years ago, there is an 80 percent decrease in traffic accidents. Statistically speaking, we save the lives of 12 thousand people annually. A life is not worth the price, but thanks to these projects, we save the lives of 12 thousand citizens annually.”

Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, who came to Erzurum to attend the opening of the completed projects, attended the AK Party Erzurum Provincial Advisory Assembly Meeting in December.

“Our goal is to bring high-speed trains to Erzurum and Kars”

Making statements, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that they aim to bring a high-speed train to Erzincan-Erzurum-Kars after finishing the Ankara-Sivas high-speed train in 2022, and said, “We have 20 ongoing projects. We follow them closely. We will finish them as soon as possible and bring them to life. We have a railway network reaching 12 thousand 800 kilometers. We will increase our railway lines much, much more. Our country was introduced to high-speed trains only a few years ago. Our goal is to bring high-speed trains to Erzurum and Kars. Don't worry, after finishing the Ankara-Sivas high-speed train at the end of 2022, we will continue as Erzincan-Erzurum-Kars. Railways are one of the most costly and long-term jobs that require technology. There is a Turkey in the railway sector that produces its own technology,” he said.

“Canal Istanbul is a necessity”

Noting that there is a need in the growing trade volume of Kanal Istanbul, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “Due to the development of commercial activity in the world, the increase in the trade volume from 12 billion tons to 25 billion will further increase the size of the danger in the Bosphorus. Since it is not possible for so many ships to pass through the Bosphorus, an alternative waterway to the Bosphorus is a must. That's why Turkey has planned this project and the production of transportation roads has started," he said.

“We are saving the lives of 12 thousand citizens”

Emphasizing that traffic accidents have decreased thanks to the mega projects, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “Years ago, there was a picture called a traffic monster. It was shown on TVs all over the roadside. Television news made a living on news of traffic accidents and deaths. Look, thanks to these projects, we made people forget about traffic accidents. Although the road networks we have expanded and traffic mobility have increased by 19 percent compared to 170 years ago, there is an 80 percent decrease in traffic accidents. Statistically speaking, we save the lives of 12 thousand people annually. A life is not worth the price, but thanks to these projects, we save the lives of 12 thousand citizens annually. We save 22 billion dollars just through investments in highways," he said.
