Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening of the 8th National Asphalt Symposium and Exhibition. “In our childhood, asphalt roads were not well known, the roads were either gravel, dirt or shoddy. Karaismailoğlu said:

“Now it seems like a very distant past to us, but not so much, until 20-25 years ago, this was the state of our roads in general, especially village roads. However, in the last 19 years, with the AK Party Governments that see service to the public as a service to the right, these views have left them in the past, not just words. Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who embraced the motto 'The Road is Civilization', we have largely solved Turkey's transportation infrastructure problem that has been going on for years.”

Today, the Silk Road revived with the Belt Road project, Marmaray, which increases intercontinental rail transportation, Eurasia Tunnel, which shortens the traffic between the Anatolian and European Sides in Istanbul, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which saves Istanbul vehicle owners from traffic problems, Travel time between Istanbul and Izmir to 3,5 hours. the Istanbul-Izmir highway, which includes the Osmangazi Bridge, which lowers the road and shortens the road by 100 kilometers; These are historical projects that revitalize both the regional and international economy, as well as cultural mobility.”

GREAT ECONOMIC GAINS ARE OBTAINED THANKS TO HISTORICAL PROJECTS

Noting that the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Highway, which also includes the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, is one of them, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments;

“The Malkara Çanakkale Highway, with a total length of 101 kilometers, is a very important project that will connect the European side of our country to the North Aegean via Çanakkale. We are working day and night with approximately 5 personnel and 100 construction machines, and we are successfully continuing the construction work so that our project will be put into service before March 740, 18. Thanks to these historical projects, great economic gains are achieved by saving both time and energy. Transportation and infrastructure projects are not only technical projects and engineering studies. Transport and infrastructure projects are carriers for employment, for commerce, for education, for social life. It is the removal of obstacles in front of our country and our nation to live as they deserve.”

FOREIGN INVESTORS SHOWED THE CONFIDENCE THAT THEY HAVE IN TURKEY ONCE AGAIN

Last week, Build-Operate-Transfer; Pointing out that the tender for the capacity increase project of Antalya Airport was made within the framework of Public-Private Sector Cooperation, Karaismailoğlu said, “Antalya Airport tender, which is among the good examples, once again showed the trust of foreign investors in Turkey. Our annual savings of 13,4 billion dollars with all our transportation investments is the result of our insistence on the projects we implement with models such as Public-Private Cooperation or Build-Operate-Transfer. However, before 2003, we see that roads were built with the understanding of just let the wheel turn. When we said that we need a road for development, when we said that these projects are needed for Turkey to become a global power, when we said that these investments are needed for the welfare, employment and economy of our citizens, we did not forget that they were opposed. If it were up to them, we could neither reduce fatal accidents on poor quality roads, nor would our country have a claim to become a logistical superpower in the Middle Corridor.

WE HAVE A WIDE AND STRONG ROAD NETWORK

Karaismailoğlu stated that they have been making a very serious effort since the first day as the government to destroy this understanding, which is the accumulation of years, and they have come a long way in this regard, and said, “Today, smart highways, which have been developed in accordance with international standards and provide maximum driving comfort and traffic safety, are also included. We have a wide and strong road network. We are establishing transportation networks that ensure the safety of life and property of drivers and passengers at the highest level.”

WE INCREASED THE AVERAGE SPEED FROM 40 KILOMETERS TO 88 KILOMETERS

Karaismailoğlu, who, as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, drew attention to the importance of the 5 sectors that he is responsible for in Turkey's economic development, increasing prosperity, and emphasized that with this awareness, they have invested more than 1 Trillion 136 billion Liras in Turkey's transportation and communication infrastructure throughout the AK Party governments. . Karaismailoğlu said, "We spent about 695 billion of this on highways," and added that they increased the length of the divided highway in 2003 from 6 thousand 100 kilometers to over 28 thousand 400 kilometers. Expressing that they have increased the average speed on the roads from 40 kilometers to 88 kilometers thanks to the divided roads, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We have eliminated the risk of collisions due to lane violations or incorrect overtaking, and we have reduced the accident rate due to road defect to almost zero. While reducing the stress of our drivers during the journey, we increased traffic safety and reduced the death rate in accidents. Although the number of vehicles increased by 2003 percent and vehicle mobility by 2020 percent between 170 and 142, we reduced the loss of life per 100 million vehicle-km by 81 percent, thanks to our infrastructure development efforts. Again, thanks to divided roads, we saved 21 billion TL per year. We started to emit approximately 4,44 million tons less CO2. We saved approximately 315 million hours, in other words 12 billion 965 million TL, rather than the workforce.”

42 PERCENT OF THE DIVIDED ROAD NETWORK WITH BSK PAVEMENT

Explaining that they attach great importance to the high performance, longevity and safety of the roads along with the divided roads, Karaismailoğlu noted that they did an average of 2003 thousand 2020 kilometers of asphalt paving work per year between 14 and 20. Minister of Transport, Karaismailoğlu, stated that they have added 2003 thousand 8 kilometers in the last 19 years to the BSK paved road length, which was 20 thousand kilometers before 269, and reached 28 thousand 860 kilometers. Underlining that they made 68 percent of the 537 thousand 42 kilometers divided road network under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Highways covered with BSK, Karaismailoğlu stated that they aim to have 2023 thousand 31 kilometers of the road network covered by BSK by 478. Noting that these high-standard roads, which have been built in recent years using advanced technologies, have raised the expectations of people in road transportation to the highest point, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu continued his words as follows:

“In order to meet these expectations, we know very well that the existing technologies, which are widely used in road construction, should be carried to a higher level with R&D studies. In line with the goals of constructing high-performance, long-lasting and safe roads, it is of great importance to realize asphalt productions that are sensitive to different climates, terrain and environment, with low construction and maintenance costs, in the formation of road pavements. Researches to develop new alternative materials and products that can meet these needs continue uninterruptedly in asphalt. There are stone mastic asphalt applications that have become increasingly common in recent years. Negative effects from increasing traffic volume, overloading, climate, topography and construction conditions both in the world and in our country cause permanent deformations such as fatigue, rutting and undulation on the roads. The use of Stone Mastic Asphalt, which has high resistance to permanent deformations, has been widely used in highways in recent years to increase the performance and life of the pavement.”

WE ENSURE THE USE OF ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE, LESS RISK PRIMER MATERIALS

Karaismailoğlu stated that they provided the use of lining materials that are an alternative to traditional lining materials, environmentally friendly and pose less risk to human health, and concluded his words as follows:

“We have extended road life and reduced maintenance costs by implementing and disseminating high-performance BSK coating types and bituminous binder types as a result of R&D projects. We achieved both high performance and economic benefits. Depending on the technological, scientific and economic developments, the demands and needs of our country for the construction of safe, comfortable and long-lasting roads are increasing day by day. We published election maps and started to use them. We continue to work on the development of a Superstructure Management System (PES) unique to the conditions of our country, focusing on defining a structured maintenance, protection, repair and rehabilitation sequence of our rapidly developing and growing BSK paved road network, focusing on both engineering and economic analyzes based on quality. We also accelerated the reuse and recycling of asphalt. We continue our R&D studies intensively on the reuse of scraped asphalt and pavement layers. With all these practices, we have achieved significant gains in limiting the impact of climate change, improving traffic safety, and reducing environmental pollution and noise, while increasing the performance and life of road pavements.”
