The 'Global E-Sports Federation' (GEF), which includes more than 100 federations around the world, held the first 'Global E-Sports Games' (GEG) in its history in Singapore. E-Sports stakeholders around the world came together and decided that Istanbul will host the 2022 tournament of the Global E-Sports Games.

SPORT ISTANBUL, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has received the reward of its initiatives to realize the 'Global E-Sports Games' (GEG) in Istanbul. In December of 2022, the eyes of e-Sports enthusiasts will be in Istanbul. Istanbul will host the Global E-Sports Games, which will be held for the second time.

SPOR ISTANBUL General Manager İ. Renay Onur, President of the Turkish National Olympic Committee Prof. Dr. Uğur Erdener, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish National Olympic Committee Ali Kiremitçioğlu and President of the Turkish E-Sports Federation Alper Afşin Özdemir attended.

GEG 2021 brought together E-Sportsmen from many different countries, especially the United States, China, Britain, Argentina, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. eFootball2021, Street Fighter and DOTA 22 tournaments were held at GEG 2. GEF stated that on the last day of the event, E-Sportsmen will come together next year, hosted by Istanbul. After the event to be held in Istanbul, GEG will be hosted by Riyadh in 2023, by China in 2024, by the UAE in 2025, and by the USA in 2026.
