Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin (via videoconference) and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened a section of the Moscow Metro's Great Circle Line to the south and west of the city. The section includes the following stations: Terekhovo, Kuntsevskaya, Davydkovo, Aminyevskaya, MichurinskyProspekt, ProspektVernadskogo, Novatorskaya, Vorontsovskaya, Zyuzino and Kakhovskaya.
This opening is a big event for Moscow. Since 1935, 10 stations were opened simultaneously in Moscow for the first time. The new section will be more than 21 km long: It is also the longest section in the history of the Moscow Metro.
“The new stations of the Big Circle Line will certainly significantly increase the accessibility of transport for millions of people of a number of districts west and south of Moscow, travel will become faster, more convenient, radial metro lines will relax, the rhythm of the whole city life will change in many ways. "We can say without exaggeration that the whole rhythm of city life will change," said Vladimir Putin.
The 10 new BCL stations will increase transport accessibility for residents of the 1,4 districts of the city of 11 million inhabitants. Around 450 thousand people will have BCL stations near their homes. Thanks to the new metro section, passengers will save 35-45 minutes of daily travel time. Sections of radial lines within the BCL will be emptied up to 22%, transfer stations with BCL up to 27-60% and roads along the BCL up to 17%.
“Today is a historic day for the city. The President of Russia and the Mayor of Moscow opened the longest section of the entire history of the Moscow Metro at once. Today, the Aminevskaya station of the future Moscow Central Diameter 4, which is connected to the ring by an underground passage, was also opened,” said Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov.
New stations were built taking into account the needs of all passengers. These stations are equipped with lifts and wheelchair platform lifts. BCL's wagons will only have the most modern Moskva-2020 trains. Such trains have an enlarged doorway, a wider car access, plus USB connectors at each seat, information displays and touchscreens, and an automatic air disinfection system.
Big Circle Line is the largest project implemented with the direct participation of the Mayor of Moscow. BCL's full launch is scheduled for late 2022 – early 2023, with 31 stations on the loop line. The full launch of BCL will facilitate the movement of 34 million Moscow citizens living in 3,3 regions. BCL will be the longest subway loop line in the world. Its length is 70 kilometers, 5 times longer than the current Line 3,5 (Circle Line) and a quarter longer than the Beijing loop line (Line 10) – the world leader in length so far.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin recalled that the Big Circle Line is an important project for the development of the country's central transport hub. Today, about 60 percent of all Russian passengers pass through the capital. BCL will be able to combine all passenger routes.
“It will be possible to cross 44 different directions from the BCL. These are commuter railroads, MCC and MCD, and radial subway directions. In other words, it is precisely this key project that, together with the MCC, is actually the new supporting framework of the entire Moscow transport system and the Moscow transport hub. “He is the hardest and most in demand,” said the Moscow Mayor. He also added that the project was very difficult because a brand new underground city was being built under Moscow and continues to be built. Moscow Metro will build a total of 150 kilometers of tunnels.
