The Pirinkayalar Tunnel, which connects Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia to the Eastern Black Sea Region, will be opened tomorrow with a ceremony attended by President Erdoğan via video conference.

According to the written statement from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; The Pirinkayalar Tunnel, which was built to ensure safe, fast and uninterrupted transportation in harsh winter conditions, opens tomorrow. The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu will attend the ceremony, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the video conference.

Annual savings of 17,6 million TL will be achieved

Pointing out that the Pirinkayalar Tunnel, which will connect Erzurum and Artvin provinces, will facilitate transportation to tourism and trade centers, the statement said, “The total length of the 2-meter-long, single-tube tunnel project reaches 272 kilometers with the 70-meter connection road. With the project, it will be a part of national and international connections by integrating with the airports of Erzurum and Artvin provinces and Artvin Port. At the same time, it will contribute to the social and economic development of the region by providing domestic and foreign tourism circulation. In addition, the existing road will be shortened by 3,34 meters. With the project, a total annual savings of 680 million TL will be saved, while carbon emissions will decrease by 17,6 tons.

Special productions were used

Emphasizing that high sensitivity was shown in the construction of the Pirinkayalar Tunnel, due to the high tourism potential of the region and the tunnel route being within the 1st degree natural protected area, it was stated that special productions were included in the project.
