Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer opened the 'Tarsus 100th Anniversary Activity Area', which was prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality as part of the Celebrations of the Liberation Week of Tarsus. Stating that they lived in the ancient lands inherited from their ancestors, President Seçer said, “If we want to walk with our heads held high in the city where we live with dignity and honor, if we do not want to ache the bones of our ancestors that we will commemorate on the anniversary, we should work, we should not be colonized because we have the spirit of independence in our blood.”

'National Struggle', 'Century' and 'Memory of Mersin' exhibitions will take place in the Event Area in Tarsus Cumhuriyet Square, which will continue on 25-27 December; Interviews are held by famous literary figures, historians, academics and writers. In addition, performances and various experience areas await the people of Mersin in the Event Area. On the first day, a talk on 'Tarsus Press History' was held by Uğur Pişmanlık, moderated by Yakup Boncuk. Then the 'Tarsus 100th Anniversary Event Area' and the '100. The opening of the Year Exhibition was started.

To the opening of Tarsus 100th Anniversary Event Area; In addition to President Seçer, CHP Party Assembly Member and Mersin Deputy Ali Mahir Sırar, CHP Mersin Deputy Alpay Antmen, CHP Mersin Provincial President Adil Aktay, Journalist Writer Uğur Dündar, political party representatives and many Tarsus residents attended.

Saying that they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Tarsus from the invading forces, President Seçer said, “A century. These lands are very important, very ancient lands. Its culture, history, history is enormous. We, who know the value of these lands, are working to leave much more important, valuable and rich legacies to our children from today to tomorrow, and we will continue to do so. Work saves us. If we want to walk with our heads held high in the city where we live with dignity and honor, if we do not want to ache to the bones of our ancestors, whom we will commemorate on the anniversary, we should work, work, not be disgraced, not colonized because there is a spirit of independence in our blood and white blood cells. Expressing that Tarsus has been a very important place from the past to the present, President Seçer said that the occupation in Anatolia started in this region and continued as follows:

“It was a very central place with Pozantı in the north, Adana in the east and Mersin in the west. That's why the invaders first occupied this place. At that time, the fire of independence was not lit anywhere in Anatolia, but it started in these lands. in other parts of Anatolia; While war is being waged with regular armies and imperialists in Sakarya, Dumlupınar, Anafartalar, Istanbul and Izmir, here with militia forces, Mullah Kerims, Ferahim Şalvuz, that is, our elders, our grandfathers, our ancestors, thousands of unnamed heroes under the ground whose names we do not know yet. As a result of the struggle for independence, the torch of independence was ignited here. We should know the value of our city. We are the grandchildren of those people who fought side by side with the French in Karboğazı, the Eshab-ı Kehf mountains, Bağlar, Karadirlik, and Hacı Talip to save these lands, shielded their chests and sacrificed their lives. Today, 100 years later, it is impossible not to be touched by this feeling, these feelings and thoughts. It is impossible for those who have a little love for their homeland, country and flag not to be touched.”

“We add our night to our day in order to deliver the trust we received from our ancestors to the future in the best way possible”

Mayor Seçer said that they, as Tarsuslu, are working day and night to deliver the trust they received from their ancestors to the future in the best way, and said, “As Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, we have made our night our day. Our region is 2,5 thousand square kilometers. He grew up with immigration. Today, it is a city of 16 million people, including 400 thousand Syrians under temporary protection. Despite all our difficulties, we try not to conflict with the central government, and we continue to do our services without bringing the problem caused by our number of seats in the Assembly to our people. Tarsus deserves many things. Reconstruction and revival of Tarsus; We offer all kinds of support to all investments made by our Municipality, other institutions, or the private sector, which will eliminate the unemployment problem, which is the most important problem, the employment problem. From Anamur to Tarsus, we are providing and will continue to deliver our services by keeping the same distance to all our fellow citizens, regardless of their political, sectarian, disorientation, lifestyle, color, language or religious race.”

Speaking about the event area, President Seçer said, “We will see some objects and pictures from our past. Our valuable historians, journalists, experts in their fields are here with our citizens for 3 days. sohbet they will. I invite all Tarsus residents here. Reminding that they declared 2021 as the 'year of love and healing', President Seçer said, “We must believe in our city, believe in ourselves, believe in our country so that we can be successful for 2022 as well. President Seçer celebrated the anniversary of the liberation of both Tarsus and Mersin and said, “May Allah never force us to fight the invaders on these lands again. Free, fully independent, facing west; we are politicians who follow Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, take his ideal as a motto, and serve the people in the political party he founded. No one can expect us to think separately from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Long live the Republic of Turkey, long live Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms. I bow respectfully in front of all our martyrs, especially the Great Leader, who have passed into eternity. I wish God's mercy on all of them. CHP Mersin Provincial Chairman Adil Aktay said, “Tarsus, a city of thousands of years of peace and civilization, is one of the most precious symbols of our struggle for independence. "One hundred years ago today, they sent the invaders to where they came from, and they took on a vital task in opening the way to a free and happy country, and to appreciate the people of Tarsus means to appreciate our freedom, independence and our Republic," he said. Aktay, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Tarsus, added that he commemorates all the martyrs and veterans of the War of Independence with respect and gratitude.

After the speeches, the opening ribbon was cut by the President Seçer and the members of the protocol. President Seçer visited the 'National Struggle', 'Century' and 'Memory of Mersin' exhibitions in the Event Area, and took a virtual tour with VR Mersin. President Seçer then listened to the talk on 'Oh Our Conditions, Our Vah Conditions' given by Writer and Presenter Metin Uca. After the musical poetry concert in the Event Area, a talk on 'The 100 Years Adventure of Culture and Art in Tarsus' was held by Remzi Karabulut, Ümit Aslan and Orhan Kır, moderated by İsmail Kün. The 'Liberation Week Celebrations of Tarsus' will continue with enthusiasm, with interviews and musical poetry performances on 26 and 27 December.

May Allah never let our country experience a war like the War of Independence, an event in which our country was invaded.
