It has been decided by the Ministry of National Education that the elective "environmental education" course in two levels of secondary schools will be implemented under the name of "environmental education and climate change" in three levels starting from next year.

In his statement, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer emphasized that as the Ministry, they carry out multidimensional studies and projects to increase environmental awareness and awareness.

Özer reminded that the "Zero Waste Project" is being carried out under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife Emine Erdoğan in order to prevent climate change, one of the biggest problem areas for the future, and to convey the awareness of environmental protection to students from an early age. He stated that they are carrying out a lot of work with the Ministry.

Minister Özer stated that as the Ministry, they took an important step to allocate more space to the "environmental education and climate change" course in the curriculum.

“With Turkey's accession to the Paris Agreement, efforts to combat climate change have gained momentum in all areas. As the Ministry of National Education, we made a significant change in the curriculum to raise awareness of our young generations in Turkey's fight against climate change. With the decision taken at the Board of Education and Discipline meeting, the 'environmental education' course, which has been taught as an elective 2015 hours a week in the 7th or 8th grades since 2, will be taught for 2022 hour in the 2023th and 6th grades, and for 7 hour in the 1th grades, starting from the 8-1 academic year. On the other hand, 2 or XNUMX hours will be applied under the name of 'environmental education and climate change'. In this context, environment and climate change education, as a long-term investment in the future, will have a wider place in the curriculum.”

Minister Özer also stated that they will inform the teachers about environmental awareness and said, “During the semester break, all teachers will be informed about climate change, environmental awareness and zero waste.” shared his knowledge.
