İBB renewed the pavements on the historical Çırağan Street in Beşiktaş with natural stone. In the works carried out by the IMM Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination Department, on the 1500 meter long street; 10.000 square meters of natural stone were laid on the pavements. The assembly of urban furniture suitable for the historical texture has also started. Lightings have been rearranged. Most of the work has been completed.

One of the most valuable streets of Istanbul, Çırağan Street, which is 1500 meters long, has been completely renewed. İBB started a revision work on the street with a team of 25 people. The infrastructure of the street was completely renewed. The sidewalks have been rearranged so that the elderly, disabled and strollers can pass. The trees, the symbol of the street, were protected with grilles.

After the works, Çırağan Street gained a contemporary structure that gives priority to pedestrian-friendly and individuals with special needs.

BEFORE PAVEMENTS RENOVATED

IMM teams have started work on worn sidewalks and deterioration in tree bottoms over the years. First of all, priority was given to the activities aimed at comfortable walking of pedestrians and individuals with special needs. In total, 10.000 square meters of hard floor (pavement) were renewed. Natural stones were preferred for these pavements. Thus, the historical texture of the street was preserved.

POSSIBLE FLOODS HAVE BEEN AVOIDED

At the same time, precautions were taken against the accumulation of water on the street during heavy rains. Rehabilitation works were carried out on the rain water lines. Additional grilles were put on the street. In addition, obstructions in the historical vaults were detected and interventions were made. In order to transfer the rain water to the sea, the last connections were made until the end of January; the street will be completely freed from rain water.

TREES ARE PROTECTED FROM THE RISK OF CANCER

In Dolmabahçe, Yıldız Woods and later on Çırağan Street, tissue disorder cancer was detected in plane trees, which are monumental trees that give identity to the region. Cancer was a threat to other trees as long as diseased trees were present in the area. In order to prevent this risk, IMM left the places of the removed trees empty and resorted to the method of resting the soil. Thus, thanks to the grids in the spaces left empty, both the pedestrian flow was maintained and the relationship of the soil with the air was preserved. Reforestation will be done in the places where the rest period ends.
