China's Robot Industry Will Grow 20 Percent Each Year

The recently published “14. Within the scope of the "Development Plan of the Robot Industry in the Five-Year Plan", the goal of making China the source country for the innovation of robot technologies in the world, the production site of quality robots and the place where integrated applications are carried out by 2025 was set.

Wang Hong, Deputy Director General of Hardware Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Information, emphasized that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the application of robots will be increased, while making multi-faceted efforts to accelerate the high-quality development of China's robot industry. In the said plan, it was also set the goal of bringing the integrated power of China's robot industry to an advanced level in the world by 2035, and that robots play an important role in economic growth, the daily life of the people and the management of society. In addition, targets are set for the robot industry to exceed 2025 percent of the annual average growth rate and increase the density of industrial robots by one fold by 20.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China's robot industry showed a development trend. In 2016-2020, the annual growth rate of the scale of the robot industry in China reached 15 percent. In addition, new advances were made in the production of important technologies and critical spare parts, and rich innovation results were obtained. The quality of the products is improving day by day.

Saying that China has been the largest consumer country for industrial robots in the world for eight years, Wang Weiming said, “The density of robots produced in 2020 was 246 per ten thousand people. That's about twice the world's average level. Applications of industrial robots now cover 52 major industry categories and 143 sub-industries, including automobile, electronics, metallurgy, light industry, petrochemical, medicine and pharmaceuticals. Large-scale applications of service robots and specialty robots took place in the fields of warehousing and logistics, education and entertainment, cleaning services, security inspections and medical rehabilitation. “A whole industry chain has formed in China, including the production of spare parts, the production of the full robot, and integrated applications.”
