Answering Journalist Ahmet Hakan's questions on CNN Türk, Türk Aerospace Industries A.Ş. General Manager Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil talked about Jet Training and Light Attack Aircraft HÜRJET. Kotil stated that HURJET is close to being exported to Malaysia. Kotil stated that they, as TAI, are in good standing in the tender held by Malaysia.Hopefully, we will sell 18 HÜRJET to Malaysia.” said. 

According to local sources in Malaysia, in October 2021, a tender was opened to supply 18 LCAs to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). It was stated that six companies submitted bids for the tender. Although details are not immediately disclosed great  light fighter aircraft It was stated that the contract for the fleet (18 aircraft) was worth about 4 billion RM (Malaysian Ringgit) (approximately 964 thousand dollars). 

Other companies and aircraft that entered the tender are as follows:

  • Kemalak Systems in partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI): FA 50 
  • China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corp (CATIC): L-15 
  • Leonardo: M-346
  • Hindustan Aeronautics: Tejas
  • Aerospace Technology Systems Corp. (Rosoboronexport): MiG-35

On the other hand, Pakistan's JF-17 Thunder fighter jet was launched as the favorite for the LCA contract in Malaysia, but did not participate in the tender.

First delivery of HÜRJET Project in 2025

Attending the Gebze Technical University (GTU) Aviation and Space Summit 2 event, TUSAŞ General Manager Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil gave important information about the ongoing activities for the HÜRJET project. prof. Dr. Temel Kotil said that the Jet Training and Light Attack Aircraft HÜRJET would start ground tests in early 2022.

Noting that the first flight will be carried out in 2022 following the ground tests, Kotil announced on March 18, 2023 that HÜRJET will perform a more mature flight. Saying that the first jet trainer will be delivered to the Air Force Command in 2025, Kotil stated that the work on the armed version (HÜRJET-C) could continue until 2027.
