The Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) has signed a new formation with Zimbabwe National Railways (NRZ) with its cooperation moves to the African continent in recent years. With the signed memorandum of understanding, TCDD will transfer its knowledge and experience to the African country.
Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, TCDD, which has made a breakthrough in railway transportation on the international platform, continues to transfer its knowledge and experience to the African continent. Meeting with NRZ at the Eurasial Rail Fair, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş signed the memorandum of understanding that will initiate cooperation between the two countries.
Stating that they attach importance to cooperation with railway companies in the African continent, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş said, “As an institution with a deep-rooted history of 165 years, we will be happy to convey our knowledge and experience on railways to the African continent. With the memorandum of understanding signed with NRZ, we are ready to provide all kinds of support and cooperation in the railway field.”
Later, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş conveyed information about TCDD's current and planned projects to NRZ representatives.
Expressing his respect and love to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ambassador of Zimbabwe Alfred Mutiwazuka said, “At the invitation of President Erdoğan, the President of Zimbabwe will pay an official visit to Turkey. I would like to thank Zimbabwe National Railways for their support prior to the said visit. The vision drawn by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu at the fair made us very happy. It is very valuable for us to benefit from the knowledge and experience of TCDD.
NRZ Chairman of the Board Martin Tafara Dinha, who stated that he should further the cooperation between the two institutions, continued his speech as follows; “The President of Zimbabwe attaches importance to the modernization of railways and the NRZ is ready for change. We will go further with the help of TCDD. We value TCDD very much and care about our cooperation. Our Ambassador's desire to develop my economic cooperation will begin with the railways. We will benefit from the experience and knowledge of TCDD.”
During the meeting, Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Turkey Hakan Kıvanç was surprised and attended the meeting by making a video call. Kıvanç, who followed the signing ceremony live, thanked him by saying that we are very pleased with the establishment of a bridge between the two countries, and we will carry these works further.
To the meeting held at TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center; TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş, NRZ Chairman of the Board Martin Tafara Dinha, Zimbabwe Turkey Ambassador Alfred Mutiwazuka, Zimbabwe Embassy Undersecretary Charles Scott and the relevant delegations of the two countries participated.
Representatives of Zimbabwe National Railways will continue their contacts with Turkey and visit Marmaray and TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate to get information.
