Speaking at the presentation of the ministry's 2022 budget at the Parliamentary Plan and Budget Committee, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu noted that the annual capacity for the safe passage of ships using the Straits is 25 thousand, and today it has reached approximately 43 thousand.

Karaismailoğlu said: “The Kanal Istanbul Project, in which 204 scientists take part in engineering studies, will alleviate the traffic load of the Bosphorus, as well as ensuring the safety of life and property of our citizens in and around the Bosphorus, and protecting the historical and cultural texture of the Bosphorus, when completed. and it will reduce waits that can take two or more days at their exit. With Kanal Istanbul, our country will get a larger share of international transportation and logistics corridors and play a more active role in global trade.
