Kremlin SözcüIn a statement, Dmitri Peskov recently stated that Putin received an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the opening of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and that the two sides will jointly make a public statement after discussing the relevant details.
Commenting on the subject at the daily press conference, Zhao Lijian said, “Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 at the invitation of Putin. Now, Xi has invited his friend Putin to the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics. "Putin also announced that he gladly accepted the invitation," he said.
Pointing out that the two sides have been in close contact regarding Putin's visit to China, Zhao stated that the meeting of the leaders of the two countries at the Beijing Winter Olympics will once again show the good neighborly and partnership relations between China and Russia.
Zhao noted that he believes that the athletes of the two countries will achieve great success in the competitions and will make the necessary contributions to present a “simple, safe and magnificent” sports festival to the world.
