With the vision of "Another Disability Policy is Possible" of Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, a series of events will be held in Izmir between 3-1 December as part of the "11 December World Disability Awareness Day".
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organizes awareness activities between 3-1 December within the scope of “December 11 World Disability Awareness Day”. In line with the vision of Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who strengthened the goal of Barrier-Free Izmir with the understanding of "Another Disability Policy is Possible", disability awareness will spread to the city with a series of activities from sports to art, from concerts to panels by the Disabled Services Branch Directorate under the Social Projects Department.
Guide dogs app introduction
The first of the activities to be held with the slogan "Everyone is Equal, Everyone is Different" will start with the introduction of the guide dogs application in the conference hall of the Social Projects Department Ornekkoy Campus on Wednesday, December 1, between 15.00-19.30. In the event organized with the Guide Dogs Association, the place and awareness of guide dogs, the most loyal companions of the visually impaired, in the society and their reflections in the lives of the disabled will be explained. At 17.30, there will be a screening of the illustrated Butterflies.
Accessible Meeting activities will be held at the Celal Atik Sports Hall in Kulturpark on Friday, December 3, between 13.00-17.30. Within the scope of the program to be organized with the participation of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, video and photo show, barrier-free sports show, boccia, table tennis, hemsball, visually impaired judo team, wheelchair basketball and amputee football team, battery powered wheelchair football, handball, bachato dance show, Erdal Giraylar Improvisation Theatre, wheelchair dance and waltz show, I Connect to Life with Songs and Folk Songs Project, Red Crescent Group and concert activities.
Awareness activities will continue with the screening of the movie Captain Fantastic for disabled people on Saturday, December 4th at 18.00 at Selahattin Akçiçek Culture and Art Center.
In a week where disabled people will have a pleasant time, the no-access panel will meet with the people of Izmir, in cooperation with the Balçova Municipality and with the participation of universities, in order to further develop awareness. The panel will be held on Wednesday, December 8, between 13.30-17.30 in the conference hall of Izmir University of Economics.

Awareness week will end on Saturday, December 11, at 10.30, with the introductory meeting of the Hands On Awareness Project at the exhibition hall of the Havagaz Youth Campus.
The Metropolitan Municipality, which started the “My Hand in You Project” aiming to develop the sense of empathy in the society, continues to bring together volunteer youth and children from different cities of Turkey, as well as the districts of Izmir, with this project that sets an example for Turkey.
